why say "It's a boy" when you could say "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"?

>trap of explaining myself to them like they're reasonable adults
This was a lesson I've learned since coming to fedi.

I was raised to test new facts against things you know to be true, and you discover that, the new thing is true, the new thing is false, or the old thing is false, and update your beliefs accordingly.

I think they were trained differently as children/young adults. Their truths were given in a different manner, from an authority figure. Instead of a worldview built with cohesive interconnected truths and ideas, they have independent truths and ideas with few connections.

The result is, I fell into the trap have trying to show people how their facts and ideas could not logically coexist, but the inconsistencies meant nothing to them, so we would both just get frustrated.

The result? Correcting them is very hard. But, it is possible for them to learn something new, or expand existing knowledge, without things devolving into conflict and frustration.

@11112011 @7 so your perspective is that the EU will inevitably become a federal superstate

@11112011 @7 perhaps, I don't have to be happy about it, nor take the knee because a yellow pirate talks smack

sure, plenty of people like the movement toward a federal EU and the way it's going, and I can see their perspective.

at the same time , what does it get anyone other than greater power for those at the top? people were distrustful of the elites before covid and have become much worse since then

maybe the future of the human race is kowtowing to ESG scores cooked up by von der Leyen and Fink, you're right to say that there is great historical precedent of money running the world. But money is blind and sterile and those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable.

Lichenstein, a comparable state, is not part of the EU or its ruling apparatus and has a vaccination rate of 68%
