I found an update by the same author as of Feb 2021 in which he's calculated an average global IFR of ~0.15%. I'd like to see the updated number for the under 70s group too, and maybe including March.
Seems like another case where some would like to think "the science is settled." Nice to have some ammo against the hoards.
"Chinese authorities recently seized a cargo ship that sailed from Nigeria with 7,200 ‘refrigerated penis."
I knew most #electronics probe holders are outrageously expensive and there must be some "makeshift" versions that cost less. What I didn't expect is that all of those cheap ones are all marketed for hacking ECUs on cars. Apparently car modding is a big enough thing to give vendors an incentive to sell cheap probe holders for that. I guess they can be pretty useful for signals below 10 MHz.
such little talk about our plans for the next gain of function-engineered seriously dangerous pathogen to be released
I’m sure this is discussed in military/intelligence circles. (Probably not among our politicians because they are all useless clowns.)
The question is what if anything can be done? Compared to nukes engineering new viruses is relatively simple. So there will be more.
In fact if I wanted to go off to deep conspiracy land… Making the population accustomed to the threat and starting to change behavior with a relatively harmless virus is not a bad first step …
Essence of Philosophy
The prudent humanitarians like Bertrand Russell saw philosophy as making slow but steady progress towards establishing the sciences & knowledge in general.
The more cryptic & tormented like Wittgenstein saw it as a non-problem or a puzzle that just would not leave him alone.
Still others like the existentialists saw it in far more subjective terms as a response to the absurdity of life, one that requires not just intellectual but passionate involvement.
“When the mind has a tendency to dream, it is a mistake to keep dreams away from it, to ration its dreams. So long as you distract your mind from its dreams, it will not know them for what they are; you will always be being taken in by the appearance of things, because you will not have grasped their true nature. If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time. One must have a thorough understanding of one’s dreams if one is not to be troubled by them; there is a way of separating one’s dreams from one’s life which so often produces good results that I ask myself whether one ought not, at all costs, to try it, simply as a preventive, just as certain surgeons make out that we ought, to avoid the risk of appendicitis later on, to have all our appendices taken out when we are children.”
