Hrm. I don't think monopolies are ever "crushed" -- their death comes at the hands of successful competition from either adjacent to or in their industry, or by a government taking the reigns of the monopoly through divestiture and cartelization.

ISPs won't be "crushed"; they'll be humiliated by how simple the next technology is compared to their overcomplicated power-inspired grids.

hahah facebook totally owned twitter haha based

This is a good point.

The base load, geothermal, keeps everything going overnight, where stuff that stays on all night is the base load.

Then in the morning, they let water out of the top dams, which generates breakfast rush power.

The water runs down the river where a dam generates the lunchtime rush. Then later the dinner peak.

The dams store and don't generate if wind and solar are generating.

Gas generate for peaks responsive to sudden demand in Auckland.

Can confirm, we get negative spot prices sometimes. In Australia they have negative spot prices during the daily solar panel peak.

In New Zealand we use geothermal, rather than nuclear for the base load electricity.

Our geothermal plants produce about 20% of our electricity.

You could build geothermal plants in most countries that have hot springs or volcanoes.

FYI, depleted uranium is just uranium with most of the U-235 spent. That would be much easier to acquire/create than the enriched uranium that most reactors use.

But the only current certified design (from NuScale) uses normal enriched uranium anyways.

From what I learned just this morning, I kind of doubt that I would ever really know the whole story. Getting kicked off of that many high profile services kind of hints there's more to the story than upsetting a few e-celebs.

Generally speaking, I consider that the freedom of speech or the press ought to be protected unless there is very good reason not to - the burden of proof ought to be on he who wishes to suppress the information.

Specific to this case, the fact that the anti-kiwi group has decided to focus on DDoS protection services makes me default dislike them. While legal suppression of speech is a nuanced topic, DDoS is not. Since around 2015 when large hosting providers gained the ability to protect against arbitrarily large packet floods, DDoS has become exclusively a weapon of the strong against the weak.

Secondly, whatever kids with Guy Faux masks want you to believe, DDoS uses hacked computers. Behind every packet flood there is somebody who thinks it is ok to make emails with puppy.jpg.exe attached and send them to unsuspecting grandmothers. They are categorically scum, and the people lobbying CF to drop kiwi know this and they know who they are associating with.

So basically what it comes down to is kiwifarms people I *might* not like, and anti-kiwifarms people I definitely don't like.
