I have made a new maths t-shirt design! If you can bear to pay Redbubble's prices, you can strut around town with a niche maths reference on your front: redbubble.com/shop/ap/11520719

Hint, not a solution

@Placholdr I'm not sure if this will work, but here's an approach:

Use contraction. Assume a_n *is* a perfect square. Consider all possibilities for the square root's last digit. It can't be even, because squaring an even number gives another even number. That leaves 1, 3, 5, and 9. ***1^2 (that is, squaring a number that ends in 1) ends in 1. ***3^2 ends in 9, ***5^2 ends in 5, and ***9^2 ends in 1. So the proposed square root must end in 1 or 9. Explore those possibilities and see if you can eliminate them.

Alternately, maybe the old algorithm for taking square roots by hand is useful.

Again, these may be dead ends.

I think I broke myself. I will never make anything this good again

@christianp Since the deck is shuffled you can transpose the "look at the next card" and "remove the required number of cards" steps. This means it's equivalent to drawing cards from the top until they either sum to 52 (success) or higher (failure).

This doesn't really give a full answer, only simplifies the problem a little.

@christianp That's single player blackjack with 52 instead of 21, innit?

Playing with the pack of cards on my desk, something just happened that I didn't expect!
Look at the deck with the cards face-up. Here's a rule: look at the top card. Draw that many cards from the deck. Repeat until the deck is empty.
I did this, and dealt out exactly the right number of cards (at the end, I had 3 cards left and the top card was a 3).

What's the probability of this happening?

@tripu
Btw, I would not classify mathematics as science.
It's much more a branch of philosophy, definitely doesn't follow the scientific method.
@sojournTime @ImperfectIdea

@tripu
These are not sciences, since not all of those follow the scientific method.
Defining moral philosophy as science is laughable.
@ImperfectIdea

@ImperfectIdea
I mean, there's a whole branch of philosophy dedicated to defining science and how it works.
If you work in science you should at least know what that is about; this is my opinion.
In my opinion, if you don't know that stuff then you are a bad scientists and I have a low esteem of you.

It's what I consider the base of the scientific method.
While you can do science without knowing the scientific method, I do believe it is proper to know what it is and how it works in order to conduct good research.

GitHub Actions seems to encourage you to use actions made by random people for simple tasks, referred to only by their github username and repository name.
What happens if that person deletes the repository containing their action? Is this node's leftpad all over again?

I've just discovered something really handy!
In Jupyter Lab, if you make a markdown cell starting with a header, an arrow toggle appears which can hide all the cells underneath, up to the next header!

Privacy Redirect (browser extension)...

Redirects:
Twitter ----> Nitter
YouTube ----> Invidious
Instagram ----> Bibliogram
Google Maps ---> OpenStreetMap.

Great examples of better everyday links---->less their link$ and redirect$ to them, less tracking etc
(less money and control to them).

Might not be compatible with all browser / version but modelling from this is possible and a great start (code on github
https:////github.com/SimonBrazell/privacy-redirect)

Allows toggling all redirects on/off and more.
