I really love Pee-Wee Herman. As a kid I watched the show, ate the cereal, wore the watch, colored and baked the Shrinky Dinks, and even tried to wear out the VHS copy of The Pee-Wee Herman Show at my video store. He was such a magnificent weirdo. I still have my action figures somewhere. The BBC's experiment with Mastodon is pathbreaking in English-language news -- a major organization setting up its own instance. They've really thought this through. Key language:

This bizarre article is about how much $ Jack Smith’s investigations of Agolf Twitler are costing. It’s paywalled, but not terribly interesting anyway. It contains this howler:

To invite your friends onto #Mastodon, there's a built-in system for this:
1. Log in on your server’s website
2. Go to Preferences > Invite people
3. Choose the settings you want for your invitation links, then click "Generate"
This often works even if your server has closed to new sign-ups, as admins may optionally allow invitations to still work.
Alternatively, just ask friends to sign up on any server and then exchange account addresses.
