I’m noticing a lot of posts today from people saying twitter has finally become untenable.

The death of twitter won’t be as dramatic as we all figured last month, with the site crashing and never coming back.

It will be a slow passing, as more people hit their “now it’s untenable” point. And eventually, even the hard right wingers will leave, because what they crave isn’t an echo chamber, it’s MAKING US listen to them.

Topological magic trick: Draw a rectangular border around a piece of paper. Tell the audience member that they will be drawing a simple closed curve on the paper—the more complicated they make it, the better. It can (and should) go in and out of the border rectangle repeatedly. Inform them that "simple" means that it can't intersect itself and "closed" means it ends where it begins. Draw the first little bit of the curve to show them what you have in mind.

Yes, it's evil, he gets off on it, and it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. We do need to push back.

But we shouldn't be doing that on twitter. Anyone who's survived an abusive relationship knows the only thing that works is grey rock / no contact. We should be organizing here and depriving him of oxygen there. The quicker we all disappear, the sooner he turns on his (current) inner circle.

Just look at how Trump is withering now that all eyes are on Elon.

Twitter was free because we were the product of a marketing service.

Mastodon is free software but someone will have to pay the bill for the servers. When the server admins come asking for help, don't be offended and be ready to chip in

T-Rump Org is a Big Loser!
Manhattan DA, Alvin Bragg is celebrating a win on all 17 counts against Trump Org, but only his fall guys are paying the price, so far.
Weisselberg is still on the payroll, gets a $500K bonus from Trump Org, and made a deal with the court, to serve only 5 months prison time, and 5 years probation, contingent upon his truthful testimony in court.

These 17 convictions still leave Trump out of reach for the time being, but more indictments are expected to come.

If Musk gave Taibbi and Weiss access to users' private messages --that is, access to other people's DMs -- it's a flagrant violation of privacy promises, and should cost Musk and his investors a ton of money in damages.
