@emersion Of course.
I'm just wining (and I know that's bad) that there doesn't seem to be an equivalent to xlib on Wayland that makes it easy to get a canvas and do 2d drawing operations without either using OpenGL directly or pulling in a pretty massive extra library.
@emersion So I guess on wayland the VTE is going to become the standard drawing API for small apps?
@garritfra I always make a dedicated efi/boot partition that's totally separate from the rootfs, I thought that's what everyone did.

My biggest complaint about the Fed's interference in the market is that it's propping up real estate prices and making it impossible for a significant portion of the population to pay rent. The result being most younger people living with their parents and almost no one having any savings or backup plans for losing a job.
@icedquinn Either all my machines have been dying at the same time for three years or that's not really an accurate indicator.
@icedquinn It should probably have a password reset mechanism, which often means sending emails. That's not hard but it's definitely it's own thing.
YouTube’s Content ID is one of the best-funded and most-used filters online. It’s not just removing legal speech from the internet, it’s dictating it. https://gizmodo.com/youtube-s-copyright-filter-is-crushing-video-critique-a-1845934339
@whitepaperkat I'm afraid of using things that should be anonymous on most smartphone OSes.
Desktops are very much unlike laptops (except #wfh laptops which are pretty much desktops with built in UPS/display.)
All the peripherals just accumulate and you forget what's plugged in (and where it's plugged in.)
@icedquinn @Tutanota I haven't tried yacy in years but last time I did the results were mostly spam.
@Tutanota Chat should be xmpp, email should be self hosted.
Duckduckgo isn't open source and the only replacement I know of would be trying to wget --miror the entier web and using eg locate to search it.
who knew a civil war would be such a boon for #QOTO user count :)
@0 I've honestly never been a signal fan due to the phone number requirement, the lack of reproducible builds, and the lack of federation. After seeing these things I really haven't looked any closer at it.

Email mastodon+swiley@swiley.net (this makes all of my computers beep and turn on an indicator light and is always the fastest way to reach me.) I was on octodon a while ago but abandoned my account. I've never been a member of gab or parlor.
If you’d like to learn to program I would consider the SICP [1] more or less the peak of American CS pedagogy (at least as far as beginners go) along with “The Practice of Programming” once you get through that.
I play ukulele, I’m ok at reading music and decent at improv. I learned from Walter Piston’s “Harmony” and some of Adam Neely’s videos.
My main phone is a pine phone so if I don’t pick up when you call the battery is probably dead, the modem is probably dead, or I’m currently swearing at calls/pulseaudio/alsa. I’d strongly recommend sending an email instead.
Dispite what my web page says I’ve stopped uploading my scratch projects to GitHub once I started to understand the basics of collaboration with git. I was using the flamegraph as gamification/motivation but it doesn’t work as well with feature branch/squash merge workflows so I just keep most things on my VPS until I’m happy with publishing updates.
