I feel like github page's load balancer changes IP address more often than my VPS does. Maybe I should give up on it? I don't like having one machine running all my stuff though.

@icedquinn I wrote something similar (swiley.net/dcgui.html) a long time ago that used data: urls instead (that way you can worry less about the server being compromised, and it also works with static hosts like github pages or busybox httpd.)
It used RC4 instead though so it's really not much of an improvement over plain text.

@thor @kev @piggo More things should have menu bars: hamburger menus are very disorganized and hard to find things in.
And my fridge should just keep the knob for adjusting the thermostat and lever for turning the ice machine on and off.

We need to talk about Firefox Lite...

1) Firefox Lite uses Android Webview, i.e. Chromium.
2) it pings home to app-measurement.com, which is a Google domain.

So no, do not use this wolf in sheep's clothing.

@rainonwires@merveilles.town I use vim for now but I'm also writing my own.

@icedquinn IMO: the way push notifications work on iOS are 90% of the reason the internet got terrible after ~2010

@icedquinn People hate scrum but I've always liked it. It helps you get into the mood for work.
I also would have lost my mind last year without it.

@rosano idk, I drive my car something like 400km round trip to visit my parents. Plenty of people I know do this every week.

@icedquinn @bob @alcinnz @cwebber @joeyh @bmann I'm still never going to use a chromium fork maintained by an ad company.

@xj9@merveilles.town @joeyh 9p in a browser doesn't make sense. Most had support for gopher until recently (many still do) some have bit torrent support, and most browsers have some kind of mail client maintained by the same people as well.

@bmann @bob @alcinnz @cwebber @joeyh
Or just use IPNS which gives you a name who's reference can be changed to point at new roots of the content tree giving you both the directory (that a search engine needs) and a mutation-like operation.

IPFS is 6 years old and major browsers still refusing to support it.

Imagine if the WWW was six years old (1997) and all the major browsers were like

> nah, just gonna continue supporting FTP and gopher, not this newfangled WWW thing

> but hey, we did, in collaboration with AOL, implement special support for their dialup site in our browser

@enron@mastodon.social That's certainly a headline.

WHATWG:
"No TCP because you could portscan with that and use people's computers to abuse arbitrary services"
*Standardizes and deploys websockets so you get all the downsides of TCP without any of the positives.*

@icedquinn It's all bad.
I gave up and now I have a corded touch tone phone connected to a landline that I tell people to call if it's urgent.

@torproject Eventually people will be using TOR to replace their missing HE IPV6 tunnels.
