@thewismit If you keep everything in git and your you're publishing it to the server by eg pushing over ssh you can use commit hooks [1].
They should work on termux on your Android too but I haven't used Android for quite a while so I don't know what shape it's in.

@wolf480pl That sounds like a primitive version of ansible IMO.
@alex You can sue for defamation in the US as well.
Theory:
1. Reinvent a square wheel
2. Understand what's so hard about making wheels
3. Observe how a round wheel someone invented a while ago performs better than your square one.
4. Appreciate the brilliant and simple solutions to all wheel design issues that a round wheel implements.
5. Throw away your square wheel.
Practice:
1. Reinvent a square wheel
2. Push it to production
wayland, holy wars
I use Wayland.
Doesn't mean you have to.
I like Wayland.
Doesn't mean you will like it if you try it.
Telling people they must use Wayland because Xorg is deprecated is a good way to make them hate Wayland.
Tell them it works for you.
Tell them about all the rough edges: caveats, bugs, by-design-absent features, required configuration.
If they still want to try it, they'll have the right attitude when doing so, and they won't be disappointed.
Today marks the end of #PinePhone Community Editions.
Thank you to
@ubports,
@postmarketOS,
@manjarolinux,
@kde and @mobian for making it possible. And thank you to all of you who picked up a CE and supported the mobile Linux cause!

@jlio People who claim the US is easy to legally enter and blame illegal immigrants for the problems the experience have never experienced the joy of interacting with the USCIS.
@stux Deaths per killowatt with Nuclear is way lower than almost any of the viable alternatives.
Just have a look at eg the cancer rates in neighborhoods that got built on coal fly ash and tailing dumping sites.
Energy is dangerous but the irrational and unscientific rejection of nuclear power has caused an incredible amount of harm both to people and the environment.
Fresh Wayland rant
@emersion I'll agree with you that yelling at maintainers is an absolutely awful thing to do and is totally unacceptable.
I think part of the reason you see this though is that people keep getting told Wayland is a replacement for X11. By design Wayland will never replace much of what X did. There are also a number of design trade offs where the downsides are more or less unacknowledged. Compositing is a big one: many use cases are very latency sensitive, many users would much rather have tearing than wait a frame or two for updates.
The distros making Wayland the default before it was ready didn't help either. There are lots of "I don't want to think about configs so I'll just run Ubuntu" people that I know who have actually gone through the trouble of installing an X11 DE just to get most of their apps working without hassle again. It's not that they don't work in Wayland, but they don't work well with the default configuration *today* which is what the "I don't know or care how it works" group of people get so upset over.
#GNU Mes is awesome. They've been at it for a while, but if you haven't seen it, check it out. Contributes to the Reduced Binary Seed Bootstrap for #guix

@icedquinn Yeah I just saw this!
WTF? They lumped qoto in too.
Strolling down the nazi.social fedtl for a list of instances to block
@dragon

Maybe actually visit us before lumping us in with actual Nazis?
Social media companies are generally not liable for user activity under a statute commonly known as Section 230, a 1996 law that was aimed at encouraging new forms of communication at the outset of the online era.
In the early days of the internet, there were several high-profile cases in which companies tried to suppress criticism by suing the owners of platforms.
One involved a lawsuit against the early online service Prodigy by Stratton Oakmont, the brokerage firm depicted in the Leonardo DiCaprio movie “The Wolf of Wall Street.” The court found Prodigy was liable for allegedly defamatory comments by a user because it was a publisher that moderated the content on the service.
So let me get this straight, there has been established precedent set in court that if a company moderates their content heavily, they are no longer protected under section 230? Where’s the section 230 removal from Twitter, Facebook, and all Google Platforms?
@freemo Holy crap I was torrenting Dvorak looking for this. Thanks!!!!

Email mastodon+swiley@swiley.net (this makes all of my computers beep and turn on an indicator light and is always the fastest way to reach me.) I was on octodon a while ago but abandoned my account. I've never been a member of gab or parlor.
If you’d like to learn to program I would consider the SICP [1] more or less the peak of American CS pedagogy (at least as far as beginners go) along with “The Practice of Programming” once you get through that.
I play ukulele, I’m ok at reading music and decent at improv. I learned from Walter Piston’s “Harmony” and some of Adam Neely’s videos.
My main phone is a pine phone so if I don’t pick up when you call the battery is probably dead, the modem is probably dead, or I’m currently swearing at calls/pulseaudio/alsa. I’d strongly recommend sending an email instead.
Dispite what my web page says I’ve stopped uploading my scratch projects to GitHub once I started to understand the basics of collaboration with git. I was using the flamegraph as gamification/motivation but it doesn’t work as well with feature branch/squash merge workflows so I just keep most things on my VPS until I’m happy with publishing updates.
