@icedquinn Neither of those are particularly good ideas IMO.
I know it's cliche and a lot of people don't like it (and maybe you've seen some of it) but this guy [1] helped me get my life together and deal with a lot of this sort of thing.

@erik At least in the US you *can't* host things like email on residential ISPs unfortunately.
@patcoll I hated not having them since I was homeschooled.
The public schools here actually close for snow days just as aggressively as they used to which is pretty weird.
@feld @liaizon Yes, I really don't think bitcoin in its current form has much of a future. The PoS based coins will probably replace it, we'll see.
IMO: regulation is what the government/police force is for not payment processors. And you shouldn't not be able to keep cash in your house, if we want a "cashless society" then we need to handle all of the use cases cash provided for and one of those is keeping spare change in a mug on your bookshelf in case something weird happens.
@feld @liaizon I've been watching bitcoin for quite a while (I bought some when the only way to do that was via #bitcoin-otc on freenode) and people have been worried about 51% attacks for a while. It's not like corporate people haven't heard about bitcoin until last year either. Plus, at this point you can just switch to a different crypto currency pretty easily if it looks like it's headed that way.
@metalune@fosstodon.org What driver? Are you talking about the kernel log?
If it's actually the driver you can adjust the log level. https://tuxthink.blogspot.com/2012/07/printk-and-console-log-level.html
Covid Conspiracy theories
@sotolf@fosstodon.org @duckhp You would think there would be a similar reaction to concentration camps though.
@metalune@fosstodon.org @splatt9990 A quick google actually says tmux does the same thing so they would be compounding.
Try adding `set -sg escape-time 0` to your tmux.conf
Covid Conspiracy theories
@duckhp @sotolf@fosstodon.org At least they're not using swastikas I guess.
@metalune@fosstodon.org @splatt9990 It could also be vim waiting for the esc char to time out to tell the difference between escape and meta (maybe tmux changed the detected terminal type and enabled this.) If it's on your local machine you can turn the value down really low.
Just a reminder that Google still hasn't unbanned Andrew Spinks[1]
We all knew famous people throwing a fit on twitter would stop working eventually. Now Google products really have no support.
Back up your photos and email *today.* I seriously regret not doing it.

>We should be violent against people who suggest we should be violent! [1]
It really might all be coming apart.
@icedquinn Wow that's really something else.
@icedquinn
>> no no it doesn't matter MSNBC just called for their execution unironically
Do you have a source for that? That's a bit intense.
I used to love the caffeine buzz from coffee but now I can't stand it. I'm not sure if it's part of aging or if it's because my life is a lot less of a mess now.
Either way, I didn't realize how strong the coffee I made on Monday was until I had a few cups (I'm used to drinking it all the time and having a much higher tolerance.) I finally feel better today.
news from dystopia:
i can't really blame them, i wouldn't like to get doxxed either. it's a hack 💁
if your activism depends on big tech you can't be taken seriously anyway.

Email mastodon+swiley@swiley.net (this makes all of my computers beep and turn on an indicator light and is always the fastest way to reach me.) I was on octodon a while ago but abandoned my account. I've never been a member of gab or parlor.
If you’d like to learn to program I would consider the SICP [1] more or less the peak of American CS pedagogy (at least as far as beginners go) along with “The Practice of Programming” once you get through that.
I play ukulele, I’m ok at reading music and decent at improv. I learned from Walter Piston’s “Harmony” and some of Adam Neely’s videos.
My main phone is a pine phone so if I don’t pick up when you call the battery is probably dead, the modem is probably dead, or I’m currently swearing at calls/pulseaudio/alsa. I’d strongly recommend sending an email instead.
Dispite what my web page says I’ve stopped uploading my scratch projects to GitHub once I started to understand the basics of collaboration with git. I was using the flamegraph as gamification/motivation but it doesn’t work as well with feature branch/squash merge workflows so I just keep most things on my VPS until I’m happy with publishing updates.
