@icedquinn IME it always seemed more popular among women than men but I wasn't sure if that was just my friends or not.
@freemo One thing I like about bitcoin mining is that it scales down to doing it by hand. The proof of storage thing doesn't look like it does that.
> the moratorium on selling food
What?
@fluffy
@freemo
I really wish I had the wisdom to do that 10 years ago.
@lucifargundam
@lucifargundam @freemo I bought one forever ago but I used a very strong (like 50 base64 digits) password and I lost the piece of paper I wrote it down on... I could have just retired and done whatever I wanted. This is why I don't encrypt my personal ssh keys anymore.
@fatboy There are lots of other mail providers and it's easy to host your own.
Also just putting .html in /var/www is a great alternative to twitter/mastodon/facebook.
The iOS vs Android thing is pretty bad but the pinephone also exists as long as you can handle missing lots of calls.
Schools that punish students for social media comments posted on their own time, outside of school, need a lesson in the First Amendment, we told the Supreme Court. https://www.eff.org/press/releases/schools-cant-punish-students-campus-speech-including-social-media-posts-eff-tells
@freemo @lucifargundam ETH is pretty good, I don't expect filecoin to go anywhere, last time I tried (two years ago) IPFS mutation didn't really work and it was still pretty slow.
@trinsec Offline mode does not work. It's been unusable for long enough that I'm convinced it's intentional.
Also: KSP's launcher doesn't have this problem.
@trinsec Steam is less great if you don't have an internet connection that can deal with huge downloads whenever you try to launch a game.
@trinsec After getting steam forced on me I decided to never buy a DRMed game again. It's worked well.
@fluffy Not understanding at least one of the concrete forms of an abstraction I'm using freaks me out.
@fluffy It's ok to crash house parties in the US? I would have liked to know that earlier.

Email mastodon+swiley@swiley.net (this makes all of my computers beep and turn on an indicator light and is always the fastest way to reach me.) I was on octodon a while ago but abandoned my account. I've never been a member of gab or parlor.
If you’d like to learn to program I would consider the SICP [1] more or less the peak of American CS pedagogy (at least as far as beginners go) along with “The Practice of Programming” once you get through that.
I play ukulele, I’m ok at reading music and decent at improv. I learned from Walter Piston’s “Harmony” and some of Adam Neely’s videos.
My main phone is a pine phone so if I don’t pick up when you call the battery is probably dead, the modem is probably dead, or I’m currently swearing at calls/pulseaudio/alsa. I’d strongly recommend sending an email instead.
Dispite what my web page says I’ve stopped uploading my scratch projects to GitHub once I started to understand the basics of collaboration with git. I was using the flamegraph as gamification/motivation but it doesn’t work as well with feature branch/squash merge workflows so I just keep most things on my VPS until I’m happy with publishing updates.
