"In other words, linking wildlife trafficking to global security helped make states see it as an important problem, but framing it as a security concern made their response much more likely to take the form of militarised anti-poaching operations and other ‘security’ measures rather than actions that attempted to address the structural drivers of the illegal wildlife trade, including economic inequality. Military contractors, of course, have a clear interest in the success of the security paradigm."

#Soil is a complex and dynamic ecosystem where multiple organisms coexist and interact with each other.🪱🌱🐛

Soil organisms play a key role in #ClimateChange adaptation and mitigation by storing carbon in the soil.

This is going into a technical presentation someday.

The intersection between human rights in the #Arctic and #permafrost thaw occurs in areas underlain by ice rich permafrost. Thaw of ice-rich permafrost triggers landslides, sinkholes, flooding, and collapsing roads, runways, and homes.

Folks - ice rich permafrost also contains the most carbon and has the greatest potential for accelerating greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere.

This is a selfie. There's an off camera flash hidden over the hill that's providing the backlighting. The light streak is from a headlight.

Shame on all of these #media outlets with misleading headlines about #iran.

1) the morality police hasn’t been “disbanded” or “shut down”. A single official (prosecutor general) vaguely suggested “pausing” or suspending it for a bit

2) This is a play for international community to ease up pressure on the Iranian government. It’s a smokescreen.

Aljazeera seems to get it more accurately: https://apple.news/A4Qkjii46Se-CrZeZ2M1uzQ

Hey, in case you were wondering...

There is no logical argument that will make a fascist stop being a fascist. They don't care about your reasons, your emotions, or your solutions. Pointing out their hypocrisy will not sway their minds. Pointing out their cruelty will not stop them.

The cruelty is the point.

Authoritarianism doesn't have "logic" as its root. It has "authority."

"The psychological benefits of re-introducing work horses to cities"

Some French towns began using horse-drawn carts for garbage, and to bring kids to school

It was to lower the carbon footprint, but it turned out to have another, subtler benefit:

Psychological and emotional

Horses seemed to just *chill everyone out* a bunch

'In a now famous ‘eureka’ moment, in 1974, Franco Bottazzo, a research fellow in Deborah Doniach’s laboratory in London, was the first to successfully visualize islet cell antibodies using indirect immunofluorescence, thereby confirming the presence of antibodies reactive to the islet. During experiments originally designed to support his thesis work on Addison’s disease, he observed that pancreatic islets “lit up” after incubation with sera from some patients with polyendocrine autoimmunity, most of whom had or would go on to develop #diabetes.'
