Snow is celebrating its victory by building triumphal arches over the only road that links us to the world. We'll see how long they'll last.

Each man kills the thing he loves—not the other way around, right?

Survived this attempt on my life back in 2008.

Cull or be killed. #Books #BookShelf.

Was careful, wore a mask, got the shots, so don’t understand how I could have tested positive for woke mind virus.

I need help. I've been trying to find and follow Black People in the sciences, history, politics, education, and other specialties.

I've failed miserably.

Can Mastodonians point me to (for starters) Black People in epidemiology and virology? Thank you!

We didn't expect that today, we thought we'd be stuck for at least two more days. Last night those brave guys worked till midnight to clear roads to houses where children live, so that they could go to school today. One of those rare cases when I'm not mad breathing in diesel exhaust.

My suggestion if you want the Fediverse to work, follow and favorite and boost the absolute hell out of people. It’s not about dopamine or clout chasing, it’s about letting people know they’re not just typing into a void.

Is it OK to clog my instance's servers with videos, or should I upload them somewhere else and just post a link?

The only difference between an atheist and an evangelical Christian is the atheist is honest about not following the teachings of Christ.

Okay. Migrated from masthead.social to mastodon.social. Meanwhile, here's the Substack on my decision to leave Twitter.

In the Deepest Ocean Reaches, a Potent Pollutant Comes to Rest

“Surprising amounts of mercury settling into deep-sea trenches may provide a fuller picture of the metal’s path through the environment, but pulling it to the surface is no easy feat.”

Someone just mentioned the differences between #Twitter and #Google regarding user data. Yes, indeed.

I've worked inside #Google twice. Their explicit rules, approvals, logging and "need to know" requirements for access to user data are most impressive. Anyone even attempting to access user data inappropriately is fired and marched out the door by security. This is part of why I have a great deal of trust in Google, and consider Elon's #Twitter to be utterly untrustworthy and totally beneath contempt.

The sun fought a good battle but was defeated by the clouds over our neighbour's house.

It's so cold in Edinburgh today one of the local otters was spotted running across a frozen Duddingston Loch!
