@david I wrote the screenplay for a feature film about a guy named Jerry Wolman. Before owning the Philadelphia Eagles for a few years (his dream!), he was a builder. His last big building project was the John Hancock Center in Chicago. When they first started building it (the first time), they used a process in the foundation that was supposed to speed the curing. It didn't. They'd built six stories before they realized the concrete in the foundation was failing because it was insufficiently cured.

They had to tear the whole thing down. It ruined Jerry Wolman & forced him to sell the Eagles to cover it all.

So - it was a great detail that struck a nerve.

A friend works for Otis elevators. I asked him for the biggest mistake builders make in creating these super structures. He said builders don't wait long enough for elevator shafts to cure.

He said it can take two years for an elevator shaft to cure, but they wait half the time and then budget fixing their elevator problems for the life of the building.

The image is the new criminal justice center being built in our city. Those five elevator shafts have been curing for almost two years.

OK sounds like #EvolgenPaper is good hashtag for adding to toots and threads on Evolutionary and Population Genetics papers

We could use #EvolutionPaper for papers more generally associated with Evolutionary Biology.

Please RT this and consider using these for tooting about papers, your own of those of others. That way we'll be able to keep track of them all more.

#wetlands are not only crucial for #biodiversity and #nature, they are also critical to ensuring that we have adequate clean and safe drinking #water, and for #FloodPrevention. Almost 85%of them have been lost in Southern Ontario and the GTA. We must continue to fight the plans that Doug Ford and his developer cronies have to destroy even more of them, and to develop the Greenbelt. #onpoli environmentaldefence.ca/2020/1

I’d been hearing about the coal-mine protests in Germany, but this photo by Sean Gallup is the first that gave me a real sense of the titanic size of the thing and what’s being protested. Just… unreal.

One of Australia’s biggest coal mining companies has been trying to recruit a Principal Data Scientist in my city for nearly 2 years now. It makes me smile every time I get served the add. Solidarity my fellow Data Scientists ✊✊✊

I don't think we should be having in-person conferences, due to the pandemic, but I also laud organizations moving theirs out of Florida. I contain multitudes.

"Skate Canada ...dropped the requirement that an ice dance or pairs team competing domestically must include a man and a woman. As of next season, pairs and ice dance skaters — up to the Canadian championships, but not beyond — need only be two skaters.

@ProgGrrl @JaneJohnsonBakr While cedar waxwings *do* get drunk on berries sometimes, but the photo looks like birds that have struck a window. This can be caused by the disorientation, and while some birds who strike windows are temporarily stunned, only to recover later, I’m not certain all of those birds fall into this category.

A number of people seem to be having stressful days after unrestful nights, so I thought I’d share this photo of Vice Admiral Finnegan Nimoy Reginald Kirkpatrick, Earl of Barkington, at the start of his naval career. May you find sustenance in this early capturing of he who started from such humble, floppy-eared log-walking-by-the-shore beginning, but would later become a decorated officer and hero of the sea, respected and beloved by all who know him.

Hi @timlinux !! Your joining and #QGIS posts were a great reminder to share what I think is one of the most important things I have ever read about #foss and it is in large part about #QGIS
