@mikey My favourite was the fileserver in operation for 20 years. Finally lost connections, couldn't ping. So they went looking for it. Eventually had to trace the cable through conduit and walls. Into a wall. Not out the other side anywhere.

Breaking in, the server had been running for years cozily drywall'd into its own isolated closet.

That circuit going to nothing might not always go to nothing!

The article misses a key point. They weren't made a "pariah" by people pointing out the risks.

That came from the right-wing outrage machine, pretending that governments were proposing to ban them.
