I don’t know if “climate activist” is really the right way to put it. Like, if I’m drowning and trying to come up for air, I’m not suddenly an “oxygen activist”—I’m literally just trying to stay alive. Maybe addressing climate change shouldn’t be viewed as an “activist” position.

@monro This is why I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS crack the DRM on any ebook I purchase (and archive a DRM-free copy in an open file format). And why I've stopped buying new titles from Amazon (they "fixed" the DRM on Kindle files and there's no crack for new titles on sale since 01/01/2023). It's not because I'm a pirate, but because if I've paid for it I don't want to lose access to it due to negligence or malicious restraint of trade by the supplier.

"The biggest reason personal blogs need to make a comeback is a simple one: we should all be in control of our own platforms.

If what is happening on Twitter hasn’t demonstrated it, our relationship with these social media platforms is tenuous at best. The thing we are using to build our popularity today could very well be destroyed and disappear from the internet tomorrow, and then what?

What happens to all the content you have created?"

it is okay to just… not use any JS framework. i am sometimes just startled at the assumption from so many pros that you *need* one.

you can just.. write plain JS.
it won’t hurt. I promise.

A special #TwigOfTheDay today, Exidiopsis effusa ,Hair Ice , growing along a crack in a twig. The white candy floss in itself isn’t a fungi but a waste product of the fungi consuming the tree bark. Temperatures have to be below freezing, like today in Northumberland, for it to form into these dense hairlike white strands #fungi

It's becoming increasingly obvious that evangelical theologians have lost the plot when they invoke #nazi tropes to further their arguements against #LGBTQ people.

As for theology:

"Theology is never any help; it is searching in a dark cellar at midnight for a black cat that isn't there. Theologians can persuade themselves of anything."

It's absurd how many of these I own, given I've never lived in a country that uses them. As much as I am a convert to the UK plug design (versus the Australian one for sure) I think the UK should transition to the EU standard just for general sanity. (Yeah, not gonna happen any time soon… I know. Should be a condition of rejoining the EU 🤣)

I reckon things should simply stop shopping with cables. I don't need a million VGA cables either. I don't even remember when I last used one.

It's #NationalShowerWithAFriendDay! 🛁

If showering with a friend is impractical in the confines of your bathroom (or you just don't want to see your friend naked), consider using an emergency drench shower!

These safety gadgets are found in embalming rooms to quickly rinse off formaldehyde or other dangerous chemicals that have splashed onto the embalmer's skin.

Don't stay in too long though - drench showers are plumbed into cold or tepid water only.

This is a nice spot to sit and admire the huge meadows, but not today. Not all of us have thick furs to protect us from the strong north-western wind.

Eventually you have to accept that no matter how many different notebooks you buy, they won’t make you a better writer. For that, you need to spend a lot of money on the right pen.

The ice still pretty thin – it would break under his weight and he'd get his drink, but he'd then get his feet wet, so he's waiting for me to help him.

So my university is bringing in a new bring your own device policy that requires device management software to be installed and ridiculous requirements like only App Store programs to be installed. I guess that means no more email or work on my phone or desktop pc at home then, nice easy way to force me to work to rule 🤷🏻‍♀️
