Ah, the joy of text localisation.

In this context, Microsoft, it is a zip file, not a postcode file, even though I'm in the UK :)

apparently somebody has decided that "salesforce, but for dating" is a worthwhile thing to make

some key benefits:

• not a parody! an actual real thing!
• literally called "dateforce", a name that is definitely not nauseatingly problematic
• "Create qualified dating opportunities (QDOs). View your historical dating stats and future pipeline."
• record a "projected close date" on a human being whom you intend to date 🤮

How to plant marigolds.

1. Start with 2 lge planters. Mine are 75x35cm.

2. Remove cat from 1st planter. Fill planter with soil. Repeat for 2nd.

3. Thoroughly water soil. Sooth wet, indignant cat.

5. Remove cat; press holes in soil about 20cm apart, 1/2 finger deep.

6. Divide # seeds by # holes. Remove cat from planters and add quotient (up to ~3 seeds) to each hole, pushing soil in on top as you go.

7. Seeds sprout in 7-10 days, except where the cat sleeps.

Wharton professor Ethan Mollick has an interesting piece on how easy it was for him to create an entirely-synthetic video of him lecturing, using AI text, voice, and video generation tools.

By the end of 1940 it was recorded that there were 3,500,000 gardens and 900,000 allotments but that an additional 500,000 allotments would be needed. Every community was expected to take part in the drive to feed the people. The Lost Gardens of Orkney, 3 #Allotments

I'm going to start a campaign to decrease storage space for cars in cities and increase the number of playgrounds for dogs.

Campaign slogan: "Less Parking, More Barking".

Physicist John Tyndall is often credited with discovering the greenhouse effect, which he wrote about in 1859.

But female scientist Eunice Foote published a paper - 3 years earlier - demonstrating how atmospheric water vapor & CO2 affected solar heating. She theorized that heat trapping gases in Earth’s atmosphere warm its #climate.

Tyndall was widely read. And Foote, being a woman, wasn't even permitted to present her own work. https://www.climate.gov/news-features/features/happy-200th-birthday-eunice-foote-hidden-climate-science-pioneer #history #science #ClimateChange

Impending cyclone tip: USB adapters that turn cordless tool batteries into a massive power bank exist.

Idk if this is the right place to say this but it really pisses me off as a Ukrainian when someone born in the West starts explaining to me how 'NATO provokes russia' - it's the same as saying that women provoke rapists. Or when someone who didn't live one day under socialism explains what a wonderful system it is, apparently 'we just didn't do it right'. I wish ppl knew when to speak and when to shut the fuck up.

It is a bit funny… my wife and I often go out for a nice dinner in town. We had Chinese tonight. But I always walk, and she always drives. I invariably arrive before her unless she is very lucky with parking and traffic, which is very rare.

Fantastic landscape of #Mars stiched together from images captured by NASA’s Mars rover #Curiosity. It shows Gediz valley shaped by wind and water flowing here billion years ago.
