Twitter vs. Mastodon
I posted this graph on Twitter (to 95,000 followers) & Mastodon (with 1/10th the followers).
I got double the likes/boosts on Mastodon. On Twitter I got dozens of ugly replies from climate deniers & trolls. On Mastodon I got polite & interesting questions.

I was trying to type "bosses exploit you" but autocorrect changed it to "bosses exfoliate you" and I think I invented a better timeline

Pułkownik Tucker "Cinco" Hamilton., dowodzący działem Testowania i Operacji SI USAF przytacza historię symulacji drona wyposażonego w sztuczna inteligencję.

Everyone talking about how medical professionals should wear masks really needs to learn about the shockingly low incidence of hand-washing among doctors.

I used to work for a company that designed teaching software, and one of the most popular things we designed, by far, was a module teaching doctors that they really should wash their hands between patients. Seriously.

You can read up on the guy who first introduced the idea that doctors should wash their hands *at all*. He was ridiculed and locked in an insane asylum, where he was beaten to death. Yay medicine.

So no, I'm not surprised at all that medical professionals aren't masking when it's not mandatory.

You want SKYNET? This is how you get SKYNET:

The US Air Force tested an AI enabled drone that was tasked to destroy specific targets. A human operator had the power to override the drone—and so the drone decided that the human operator was an obstacle to its mission—and attacked the operator. When it was expressly forbidden to kill the operator, it destroyed the operators communications net, effectively freeing itself to carry out its original directives. @devnull Sure, people can do what they want on their instances, and I will defederate them if they do that thing.

I've been doing web performance work for a number of years now and I've seen over and over that if there is one development pattern that will make or break your site's delivery performance: it's whether you serve useful HTML upfront, or you serve un-useful HTML upfront and populate it long after that using client-side code.

If you're doing the latter (and many popular sites are!), that's often the most important thing you can change to improve your website's delivery performance.

The other heat pump sits idle while we wait for these two to fledge. Parents are probably ready too.

My husband made this convertible bench / desk from leftovers after redoing the deck. We've been married > 10 yr.s, and I didn't know about these skills!

While building, he had the kids sit on it to make sure the bench/ desk had the right dimensions for them.

The discovery of 5.9 million tons puts India on the map as having the fifth-largest reservoir of this precious metal.

In Salal itself, there were "mixed feelings of fear and joy," village head Pritam Singh told DW. "The whole village will be displaced because of the lithium extraction, and we will lose our ancestral homes, but there is a hope that it will bring jobs to our unemployed youth and prosperity to our village."

Here's what I would like to know about Hunter Biden:

Why did Saudi Arabia give Jared Kushner $2 billion dollars?

Does something like #mosstodon exist for #fungi? I have never seen a #mushroom grow on a tree like that! That looks completely bonkers! 😳 🍄

@futurebird I'm a regular and sometimes-moderator in an expert-opinions-preferred subreddit, and I feel you on this one _so_ hard.

Unfortunately, Reddit does not want to run an experts forum. They want to run an engagement mill, and the site is built to encourgage all kinds of engagement - not just positive or constructive kinds.

I think it's nice that people go to expert forums to find out about insects. It would be nice if everyone would read the other replies before adding their own.

It would be nice if taking time to tell someone to "google it" would just die... particularly with how google and other searches have... become much less useful over time.

This thread is a microcosm of everything annoying about reddit.

A guy posts a photo of a spider wondering if it is a "brown recluse" gets a bunch of different answers many repeats, several people calling him stupid for not 'just googling it' a few calls to burn down the house and move.

It's not a brown recluse. Even if it were they aren't aggressive. Move to a remote location. There is a really good video about the reputation these spiders have I'll link next.
