Noticing a lot of instance admins lately who are feeling pretty down.

Please remember that the vast majority of admins and moderators in this space do not do this work as a day job, nor as paid work. They have other projects and deadlines and bills and family and actual living plants. Please have the good grace to be patient with them 💜

*By which I mean do not abuse, harass, dox, threaten etc. Jeez.

Homeless people participating in the study said that as little as $300 would have kept them off the street. 90% became homeless in California.

' The study’s authors say the findings highlight the idea that money, more than addiction, mental health, poor decisions or other factors, is the main cause of – and potential solution to – homelessness. '

Between isotope injection and PET scan there was almost an hour to kill so I spent it outside walking and taking photos.

#Mushroom hunting is much more fun when you pretend you managed to run #Doom on a real forest.

Improperly carried pocket knives are the leading cause of death *during* mushroom hunts in Poland. Poor knowledge of #fungi taxonomy is the leading cause of death *after* mushroom hunts.

You can tell we don't use these steps because these are stinging nettles.

>The good news is that once nettle is cooked, steamed, blanched or dried the stinging compound completely goes away.

They also make good beer (alcoholic or not).

(Edited to fix typo.)

For anyone who lacks the advanced level of age I mean experience some of us have, you should read this Wikipedia page on Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish

I guarantee this is the goal of Meta joining the fediverse

This grass stem, with flowers, is about 1.5 metres tall.

Time to mow.

It's amazing engineering to be so thin yet have survived a few heavy thunderstorms.

Ok, so these custom level is bigger than what John gets through ... it's basically a game in its own right ... basically if David Lynch made a Doom game!

Check out this video, which is a complete play through with plenty of context from the peripheral details of the game. The video will obviously spoil everything, which I'm personally a little disappointed about, but I don't think I could have gone through all this.

I can see some people on the internet have some quite strong opinions.

Hello #SFBA!
We've heard and read a lot about the potential upcoming Meta project that intends to join the fediverse. We have also seen many instance admins committing to blocking these instances as soon as they appear. We are not going to commit to suspending them at this time, but we also won't commit to federating with them. As always, we **are** committed to giving potential problem instances extra attention; and this one will have our eyes fixed upon it.

We do not know when they will release their service, but when they do our moderators will be keeping an eye out for content that violates our CoC or otherwise threatens our users. Just like any server, if they become a nuisance or violate our server rules they will be limited. If there is risk of harm to our users, we will suspend them.

Please continue to report anything you see, and happy tooting!

Well, this is something you don't see every day. A dead #squirrel was lying on a sidewalk next to the street. Two #turkeyvultures were trying to pull out its intestines. One of them gave me the business, or maybe it was just trying to spit out squirrel hair. #birds #birding #birdsofmastodon #nature #photography #cleanupcrew

Hug your #FediAdmin today.

There's a lot of shit flying in the #Fediverse lately and a lot of times perspective seems to get lost. Yes, there are things we need to talk about, and yes there are things we will not agree on. And that's okay.

But leave the pitchforks and torches out of this.

Fedi admins put in the hours and effort and emotion into making fedi happen. Sometimes they make decisions we might not agree with. We should criticize, but we should not pile-on.
