Life is terrifying, actually.
Henneguya zschokkei is a parasite that doesn't have mitochondria and doesn't use oxygen to metabolize. And one theory for its evolution was that it was a cancer of jellyfish that became its own species.
Let me get this straight: it doesn't have mitochondria, doesn't use oxygen to metabolize, and it might have been a cancer that became its own species.
Life is terrifying, actually.
In 1934, the definition of "heterosexual" was revised to its current definition, and no longer considered a pathology.

Happy birthday to the 19" equipment rack, which turns 100 next month. From the July, 1923, Bell Systems Technical Journal: "All panels are to be of a uniform length, designed to mount on vertical supports spaced 19>< inches between centers. The height of the different panels will vary, according to the amount of apparatus in each unit, but this vertical dimension is in all cases to be a whole multiple of 1-3/4 inches."(p139 at https://archive.org/details/bstj2-3-112/page/n27/mode/2up )
Glitches in the app used by asylum seekers in the immigration process create a digital barrier. People with older smartphones, who have poor access to broadband, and who's skin is dark encounter additional obstacles.
In 2001 my cousin, Sofia - a medical doctor - died when the EVAC helicopter she and four others were on crashed into the Med in bad weather while on a mission to rescue a rich arsehole who'd got into difficulties aboard his yacht.
Hers was the only body found - it washed up on one of the islands two months later.
Go ahead and not give a shit about the lives of people you deem unworthy of compassion. My family will still try to rescue you, too, if you get into difficulties for whatever reason. It's what we believe.

Malaria used to be endemic and not uncommon in the United States as far north as Chicago, before being eradicated by large-scale public health campaigns involving the draining of mosquito breeding sites and pesticide spraying.
This resurgence in Florida really wants to happen. The disease and the insect vector are both happy here, and I really wish people appreciated the scale of government involvement required to keep Malaria out.

If you've ever wanted to experience the visceral horror of being abruptly awakened in the middle of the night by a small person who proceeds to pull out their own tooth in front of you and then cheerfully dribble mouth-blood as they speculate on how many Robux their tooth is worth, then parenthood might be right for you.
