I’ve worked with many kids who genuinely didn’t understand what was happening when adults were kind to them because of their home lives, so it’s no exaggerating to say that your kind words might be some of the first someone has ever heard. Lots of kindness-starved people out there, especially kids.

Zima kilka lat temu, nie pamiętam dokładnie. Poszliśmy zwiedzać stację towarową Łódź-Olechów (to olbrzymi terminal kontenerowy, położony na południowym wschodzie Łodzi). W ramach atrakcji można było też zwiedzić jedną z hal i obejrzeć świeżo wyremontowaną lokomotywę SM31-143 (na zdjęciu). Można było wejść do kabiny, z czego skorzystałem.

Jakie wrażenia? Otóż maszynista nie widzi NIC na odcinku mniejszym niż kilkaset metrów. Z krótszego końca (bo lokomotywa ma kabinę umieszczoną asymetrycznie, bliżej jednego końca niż drugiego) to jeszcze jak cię mogę, ale gdy patrzy się przez to małe okienko na "dłuższy" koniec... zapomnijcie o czymkolwiek. Widać tylko semafory.

I warto o tym pamiętać, gdy zechcemy się pchać na tory przed taką lokomotywę. To nic, że jedzie wolno, bo akurat ciągnie jakieś ciężkie wagony. Maszynista po prostu nie ma szans Was zobaczyć. #kolej #lokomotywa #sm31

Thank you all who sent me sweet messages when beloved Drake died in early June. It was a very rough time for me. But after the Buddhist 49-day mourning period was over, my need to become a dad again for the unfortunate grew strong.

Tech question. My 12-year-old Canon Pixma MP990 printer-scanner is still going strong. Both functions work fine with a 2015 iMac running Monterey, but I'm about to shift to an M2 MacBook Air. Could never persuade the MP990 to print over wifi, but it has an ethernet port and an old mini USB port, so an adapter should hook it up.

Software-wise, I probably downloaded a 3rd-party driver years ago after Canon support stopped. Any thoughts on whether this set-up will still run? System report in pic

Hier: Der Parasol ist aktuell sehr häufig zu finden. Die Hüte schmecken köstlich. Falls ihr einen findet, trocknet den Stiel und macht Pilzpulver, ein fantastisches Gewürz. Achtung, der Parasol wird immer wieder mit giftigen Pilzen verwechselt. Sammelt nur was ihr sicher kennt!

The Voyager probes are amazing in many regards but they may ALSO be the longest continuously running computer programs (by some definitions). Each probe has three computers each of which has a backup.
