Also, here’s an electric bus in Fairbanks, Alaska, that worked fine at -40F below zero.

It never got close to 40 below during the Texas freeze, yet we still lost power (and WATER pressure - toilet didn’t flush) for days.

The batteries on the bus were apparently winterized, telling me they actually can work even well *above* 0F in Texas 🙄

This tweet got a lot of love during the ‘21 freeze. I would assert that if the batteries are properly designed and weather-proofed, they’re fine.

The issues here are logistics and greed. We’ve been told to winterize the grid - we don’t. “This is unusual, we can’t prepare.” - ok.

In the summer, it’s the same though. Not enough capacity. They didn’t “plan” for it. It’s never their fault because proper planning costs money. It’s all so gross.

I attend my local American Statistical Assoc meetings sometimes, but they are rare.

Full text search has been merged in #Mastodon `main` branch, and will be in the next (and final?) 4.2.0 beta 🎉

It is opt-in, so it will take some time to be filled with people content as they enable their profile to be indexed, but this was one of the most wanted Mastodon features for some time.

We plan to deploy it to mastodon.social and mastodon.online in the coming days to have a bit more feedback on it and see how it behaves in the wild.

Should one bought ~3 years ago and only lightly played since be shedding hairs already? Cause is likely not bow beetles (something I only learned existed yesterday...) because a fellow bow in the same case seems fine.

(Was not an expensive bow, but still. And it's a better one than the other learner's one I had in the same case.)

A big part of my job is running our fruit tree project. We come.pick your trees, you keep 25% if you want it, volunteers who come help split 25%, and we donate the rest to food security partners in town like the food bank. It is absolutely a bonkers year for fruit. Picked over 600 lbs from a single tree last week. Lucky / happy to be working here!

Zdałem sobie sprawę, jakie duże znaczenie psychologiczne ma to, że dziecko dostało kartę na bezpłatne przejazdy komunikacją publiczną w całej prowincji.

(Kontekst: na 13 urodziny dziecko dostaje pocztą kartę, która upoważnia do darmowych przejazdów autobusami i pociągami w całej Skanii).

Dziecko staje się niezależne w kwestii dojazdów. Nie musi się prosić rodziców o podwiezienie. Nie musi się prosić o kasę na bilet.

To poczucie niezależności jest IMO nie do przecenienia.
