Here's hoping someone creates a Kariko Prize, to be awarded annually to someone that academia kicked to the curb and who went on to change the world anyway. Of course, there should also be a UPenn prize every year for the most egregious example of an academic institution failing to support someone when it would have mattered but later taking credit for their work anyway.

You can reduce the power consumption of your GPU using the command
sudo nvidia-smi -i 0 -pl 130

0 being the GPU number, and 130 being the desired wattage. I reduced the power consumption of my GPU from 180 to 130, the minimum possible, and tasks take basically the same amount of work, and the power and heat are reduced. I don't have a socket with a a power meter, but I can hear the fans spin much more slowly. nvtop tool confirms this.
