I keep ramping up my anti-tracking and anti-ads game in my digital life, and since I stopped using Chrome, my ads are getting even more generic.

I'm now mostly receiving ads for dating sites presenting single straight women, which is about as generic as ads can get I expect. They have no idea who I am, so they're serving ads for Grayson Perry's "default man". 😆

Today, October 10, is annual world "Just Bin It" day, when you're allowed to finally give up on that creative project that you've been feeling guilty about not finishing.

Just bin it. It's OK. Sunk cost fallacy is a thing. The work you did, is not wasted. Move on to something you actually want to do.

(Actually this is a lie, every day is the day you're allowed to give up on feeling guilty about an unfinished project and Just Bin It. )

Today, I was humbled by the challenges of rural living.
Summer and I ventured to the west side of the house to check the rain gauge at 8 a.m. to post the rainfall total online with our local weather service.
Since it is stormy, the wind closed the gate hard behind us, trapping us in the backyard. The gate latch broke and lodged in the fence between two boards.
I didn't have my phone, and all the doors and windows on that side were locked.
Yikes.
I had to put my shoulder into breaking one of the fence boards to get the gate loose.
It's past time for a new gate.
I might be getting too old for breaking and entering.
I'm taking my phone with me from now on.

An exciting study on the oxygenation states of the early Paleozoic. Silurian oceanic water were apparently hypoxic. So... you need a little push to create an anoxia and an extinction event. Of which were many.

There are still some juvenile birds around ... here a juvenile Amer. Goldfinch (L) is fed by a parent (R). They perch on drying out Thalictrum 'Elin', or Meadow Rue. This is the first year the plant hasn't been blown down -- probably my deer fence supported it.

Chciałem sklonować swój głos za pomocą ElevenLabs. Skorzystałem z nagrania podcastu i wyciąłem odpowiednią próbkę. Działa to świetnie. Wysłałem nagranie z syntezą mojego głosu i właściwie nikt się nie jorgnął. Tylko wszyscy mówili, że jestem tam taki poważny, czy wręcz smutny. Nagrałem kilka kolejnych próbek i wciąż to samo. Ile bym nie mówił na uśmiechu, entuzjazmował się przed mikrofonem - nadal brzmi to poważnie i smutno. No i teraz pytanie: czy to algorytm odbiera mi radość, czy może właśnie oczyszcza z maski radości. Może w środku jestem smutny i to po prostu wyłazi na wierzch. Od ponad 3 lat biorę leki przeciwdepresyjne i przeciwlękowe, więc z wierzchu jest spoko. A w środku... Jeszcze spróbuję znaleźć starsze nagrania i wtedy sprawdzić. Nie wiem tylko, czy takie są. Dobrego dnia.
