In the US moral panics tend to be linked to a sincere belief in Satan and/or demons. Some Christian practices lean into the existence of The Devil(tm) very heavily.

This is, frankly, terrifying. If you believe that there are evil beings working non-stop to corrupt your family you will look for those forces. Anything "different" or superficially gothic could be a threat.

Why don't they ever decide The Devil is payday lenders, insurance companies, war profiteers and IDK FDA deregulators? 3/3

While we were figuring out the approach we could take to present their research, we realized there is a parallel between astrocytes and dementia caregivers, and between neurons and patients themselves.

Both astrocytes and caregivers (especially family members) are diligent, quiet, relentless workers that are not directly affected by the disease but eventually too succumb to it, losing their energy, identity, role, and relationships.

Now, if you’re like me and you barely understand half of the words in the previous message but you’re still rooting for the scientists and genuinely want to understand more, we made a website that explains the subject in a more accessible manner.

This year I finished one of the most fascinating projects I ever worked on.

Together with a team of researchers from the molecular neurodegeneration department at Amsterdam UMC we came up with a visual and interactive way to present their latest paper on tau protein aggregation and its effect on astrocytes.

Hej, to jest znakomity pomysł. Tylko obrotowy cokół by się przydał.

If you use an Insulet Omnipod 5 to manage your insulin dose, there is a _terrible_ bug in the Android client where it drops the decimal point in a calculation, which can result in dose 100x what's intended.

Holy shit I love this map

Only 0.27kW coming out of my solar panels, for some reason.

(No, it isn't worth adding something to melt it off, or risking my neck on the roof. This is a very rare combination of sticky snow followed by sunshine, and it will melt off).

#BilboToday becomes #BilboPaths. You can follow the hashtag for more. I'll never forget what this fascinating and loving personality of a dog taught me about #nature and how to change my perspective.
As soon as I'm mobile again (carrying the dog last threw my physiotherapy back), I'm walking our old #paths again. Unfortunately, it is too cold to tell you about small critters but let's see what what else can be sniffed out in the #forest. RIP Bilbo💔

After 15 years of #photography with #sony A100 and A290, I finally decided to switch to a #mirrorless #A6000 . I've got its kit lens (16-50mm F3.5-5.6) and my old Sony 50mm F1.4 with an adapter - which means no autofocus.

Do you have any budget autofocus #lenses recommendations for this system?

I've heard good things about Sigma 30mm 1.4 as prime. Anything else I could be looking for, probably used?

In the meantime, I'm learning manual focus with the doggo below ;)

As a kid a teacher accused me of "being clever" when I pointed out that his instructions were ambiguous. Further confused, I asked him what he meant, because being clever was generally considered a good trait, but the tone of his voice suggested he might have intended it in a negative way. This was apparently additional proof of my "being clever", and grounds for punishment.

All I was trying to do was to understand him clearly. #ActuallyAutistic

Flying pigs are supposed to be the epitome of the impossible, and yet the grocery store is careful to specify that this is ground pork.

Instead of a thousand words.

#GDPR was used to end the police practice of digital strip searches on victims of sexual violence (demanding data under threat of dropping a complaint).

The #DataGrabBill gives the police unprecedented power to collect and use personal data for law enforcement, whether for loosely defined substantial public interests or the legitimate interest of reporting crimes.

It blunts our ability to challenge the police.
