The Bendix CADC is an analog computer used by fighter planes in the 1950s. It computed airspeed, Mach number, and other important parameters. I reverse-engineered how it performed these calculations with tiny gears, differentials, and cams. 1/12

I'm Kirk, an engineer researching the conversion/storage of clean energy: batteries, converting CO₂ into useful chemicals, etc. I'm from St. Louis, USA, did my PhD in UK, now living in France. I'm a lot of things but anticapitalist and antiauthoritarian are good catch-alls.

I plan to transition away from academia and start a worker-owned enterprise around these technologies, with open-source at the core. Here to learn from others and find community.

It turns out the fox screaming I heard last night outside my house was them killing a seagull and eating it under my car. Just in case any of you were harbouring idyllic or nostalgic views on rural life. I would like to unburden you of those.

Dzisiaj podczas silnego wiatru na biurowcu w którym stróżuję spadł alpinista narodowości ukraińskiej. Był zmuszony razem z kolegami myć szyby biurowca pomimo tego silnego wiatru. Oczywiście, nie był ubezpieczony. Płacono mu również zaledwie 17 zł na godzinę.

To jest chore, że ci ludzie muszą podejmować się takich zagrażających życiu prac za tak beznadziejne pieniądze.

Jedno jest pewne. Przeciembiorca zarobił na jego niedoli.

Today I spent a few hours working in the garden, removed the table that rotted and collapsed, installed a bird feeder, did some general cleanup. Spring is coming, some of the flowers I planted in autumn are starting to show new sprouts.
