Our are being drained. Come next summer, the wet meadows won't be wet any more.

First of all we thank you for your response to the presence of the Memorial in the #Fediverse. Thank you for amplifying our voice.

One of the issues raised was using the CW option. We use it with disturbing images, but...

It is challenging, but should all history of #Auschwitz be a CW? Most of our posts remind people, victims of the camp. We show their names, faces, individuality & commemorate them on their birthdays. Marking them with a CW seems somehow wrong.

What do you think?

The very impressive but deeply creepy Devil’s Fingers fungus (Octopus Stinkhorn), sprouting in a local park.
These are native to the southern hemisphere but have somehow made their way to Northern Ireland.

First – very little of it, but still fun for Masza, the senior bitch of the pack.

Fallen in an unmanaged . Is there any better explanation for this than ancient civilisations? :)

I guess a bit of a more formal #introduction

I am a newly started postdoc at The Sainsbury Laboratory (Norwich, UK).

I study #lichen #symbiosis. My ultimate goal is to figure out how different symbionts - fungi, algae, bacteria - self-assemble into #lichens, which are big, complex, and three-dimensional. I use meta-omics, #bioinformatics, and cell bio tools to answer this question.

I love nature, programming, and cats.

Frozen hunt with the , our pack. This Xercocomus won't end up in our kitchen, we'll leave it to the snails.

Just signed the first copy of my #book, headed overseas to two of my wonderful, patient, kind sources. Giving away all my comp copies to the many, many sources who took the time to teach me. NOW it feels real. *sniff*

Necking. #FEA #Plasticity #LargeStrains

I was fighting with robustness for multi-field plasticity last week.

Multi-field means that I have no nested problem at the integration point. That creates many opportunities, i.e. matrix-free block solvers, ALE etc.

The trick was to make it work for any element, hex or text, with an HO geometry (curved surfaces).

Finally, I cracked it :)

This sounds like something I talk about a lot, actually. Scientists, generally speaking, will have a method on how to do things. We're used to SOPs and process is often our thing.

The majority of the world doesn't think like that. If your instant and immediate reaction isn't what they want, then you're automatically against them.

I'm not going to write a novel, but look at how the non-scientists in the world handle information on things like COVID or climate change. If it changes, it's inherently bad in their opinion. Only the first opinion they heard matters, to a large number of people, and they'll go to the grave believing it.

TLDR; scientists and non-scientists often struggle with communication. Thank you for coming to my TED talk :)

Hi All I'm Auriel (she/her) I'm an ecologist who mostly studies wetland #birds and #wetlands themselves, especially rails and waterfowl. #ornithology

I also do a fair bit of #decisionscience and #structureddecisionmaking work mostly focused on #naturalresource questions

I run #ForbesBiologicalStation which is a part of the Illinois Natural History Survey who I work for.

I'm also 2nd VP for @WilsonOrnithSoc where I'm working to make the society more inclusive

I also do work on unpaid labor

A female otter and one of her cubs, leaving the loch as the sun sank down, its last rays lighting up their long whiskers.

It's not often such light is available on Mull, and even rarer when there is something to photograph within it.

Just heard two of my favorite tech reporters talk about how hard it is to set up an account here. TBH, if you find that challenging, maybe this isn't the beat for you? It takes like 2 minutes to enroll through the web!

Czytam, że „Ewelina Głowacka we wrześniu została ukarana mandatem w wysokości 200 zł, ponieważ wzięła żywność ze śmietników pod sklepem Biedronka w Białymstoku. 31-latka z Białegostoku walczy teraz o uchylenie kary”.

Dla kapitalizmu nawet lepiej jakby głodni poumierali, bo wtedy wzrośnie PKB, zakłady pogrzebowe zarobią, producenci trumien i zniczy. Ludzie umierają, a biznes kręci się dalej.

yeah I don’t think we’re going to mars

We have decided to create an account at Mastodon. We need time to learn how this platform works but also how to synchronize our work here with the Twitter account.

Thank you all for joining us here. No matter where we are, the mission stays the same. We are in social media to commemorate the victims of Auschwitz and educate the world about the tragic story of the camp.
