Couple of weeks ago, while out in the forest behind our house, i heard a familiar whistle. I had heard this sound only trying to learn birds by their song. So i took my phone and played once the female pygmy owl call. And there it was! First owl i get to see and photograph!

People make fun of vi because it’s hard to get out, but it says right there: “esc : w q”. Whereas getting out of emacs apparently requires the gradual realization over the course of decades that all of your heroes are monsters and the ideological basis of the liberatory movements you championed in your youth are inherently flawed and futile exercises

If you call the NAF hotline, they'll help you figure out how to get to the nearest clinic and a case manager can help support you through the whole process, and NAF covers the travel and abortion care of those who lack their own funds.

BTW If you have a radiator on the wall, you can fix a bit problem by putting a shelf just over the radiator, which improves air mixing. I have such a solution at home. Such things improve comfort and are good for #climate, practical, and almost cost nothing.

Fun anecdote

So I teach IT and I decided to throw some of my questions at it to see what happens.

The question "In binary, do most people have 10 legs?" -- and every reasonable rewording me and my students can think of -- result in a wrong answer.

A good number of which leaves ChatGPT insisting that most people have 3 legs.

overhyped...

If Scooby-Doo taught us anything, it’s that humans are always the monsters.

He is back! 🙂

This summer I got a new camera, the canon r7 and the rf 100-400, which I highly recommend to anyone looking into mid range birding setups.

So I was testing it out in my parents back yard. Growing up I had a lot of plastic animals because I've always loved animals (shocking I know).

I wanted a subject to test out my cool new camera on and found this stegosaurus in a box in the basement. I set it up on an empty bird feeder post and started getting used to the controls.

Well the house wrens were nesting at this time and constantly on the move gathering bugs for the little baby wrenlets. The wrens were working extremely hard between gathering bugs and running off any other birds that dared be in the area.

I guess this one just needed a second to rest on a dinosaur.

I just went through all of the 🐦 photos I took this year.

I don't think it was my best 📷 year, but it was nice to look back.

I'm going to share one photo in this thread between now and the New Year.

Here's the unqualified best one: an Arctic tern in Maine.
