The White Horses mural is still there today, 2023. Colin's quiet but firm assertion of his own artistic expression, while leaving the graffiti that had previously concealed his earlier work clearly evident, has inspired respect.

I love this mural for itself, and 2x for its story.

Our free speech workshop was very alright. A hot lunch was provided. After lunch the serving dishes remained over the Sterno. As a lawyer from PEN talked about the First Amendment, one of the pots of Sterno ran out and gave off a strong burning smell. When the talk was over, I asked the lawyer who was talking to us whether yelling fire in a crowded conference room was protected speech. And I kid you not, she directed me to @Popehat. :)

Falling Waters trail along Dry Brook in Franconia Notch with the kid some years ago. I think this was the hike where he barely made it to the top (kid exhaustion!) and then on the way back he was full of energy, encouraging people that they were getting close at first, and then warning them to turn back. Want to help the bees?

1. Stop using pesticides. This includes "green" pesticides and mosquito misters.

2. Plant a diversity of flowers, if you have space.

3. If you have land, leave some bare patches, as most native bees are soil-nesters.

4. Leave dead trees and plants to stand for the wood and twig-nesting species.

5. Vote against politiicians who are insensitive to environmental concerns. You know the ones. Out with them.

6. Vote for politicians who expand protected areas.
