A few years ago the constructors of our house wanted to cut down those . They were a bit in their way. We decided to keep them, and now can only imagine how hot our house would be if not for their shade.

I would like to have a talk with whoever laid out this keyboard, preferably behind a woodshed.

Plants don't get covered that well in gen bio and gen chem classes. Nature programs tend to focus on the animals. But A LOT of what we eat, wear, and medicate ourselves with comes from plants.

Now drinking: a drink made with bark from a Cinnamomum species, powdered fermented seeds of Cacao theobroma, and ground roasted seeds of Coffea arabica. #PlantScience #Botany

@ascentale Much of today's "we mustn't do anything to cause congestion" thinking is rooted in the gas crisis of the 70s. Since then the spectre of congestion has been (misguidedly) attached to so many counterproductive urban transportation policies. It's a *very* handy boogeyman.

Yet in most US states, turning right on a red light is still allowed by default.

There's no evidence #RTOR does what it was meant to do: save fuel.

There is evidence that it increases the risks to pedestrians even when (especially when) they are using crosswalks and following traffic signals.

There's widespread acknowledgment that our longstanding focus on traffic flow kills people.

Why are we still turning right on red? This is the lowest of the low hanging fruit. Ban #RTOR.

Some autistic people find making phone calls extremely stressful and unpleasant and will avoid them at all costs.

Please don’t try and force your communication preferences on others.

I'm planning on booking a couple of nights away for my other half & I in a few weeks - our first little holiday in nearly 8 years...

A few observations....

1) AirBnB isn't what I remember it
2) Dang some places look snaky, but are quite expensive
3) I'm actually wondering how LGBTQ friendly places are and not wanting the hassle of having to confirm that, yes, two men will be sharing the same bed, thank you very much...

Oh, and trying to find somewhere interesting but not bank breaking in a nice rural or coastal location in the South West of England.

I don't ask for much... :D

If you'd like to contribute to #OpenStreetMap but feel lost and unsure where to begin, I can recommend getting StreetComplete, which turns filling out OSM data fields into a game of completing quests in your local area. You'll get questions like "What's the road surface here?" or "What are the opening times for this shop?" or "What's the house number of this house?" and can just go there and check and then answer. Very convenient for me who don't understand GIS and OSM!

There's currently a wave of bots trying to vandalize #OpenStreetMap by replacing names (and russian langauge names) with anti-russian slogans. The #OSM DWG has blocked 5,000+ accounts already

@EricLawton And why do they always seem to show them driving in places they should never go. The edges of cliffs, on ancient monuments, beaches, rivers, anywhere but where you drive 99.9% of the time.

We've banned cigarette advertising.

When do we do the same for fossil-fuelled vehicles, vacations, …, starting with ads for the heavier vehicles which seem to take up most of the advertising these days.

Yes, some people will need them until we have affordable alternatives, but they don't need to be persuaded by advertising.
