Want to hear something crazy?

My grandfather was a clockmaker/repairer. When he sold someone a clock he would give them a card with his home phone number and tell them to call him if there was a problem. He and my Granny moved to their house since 1952 and my Granny still owns it.

In 2020 someone who had bought a clock in 1965 CALLED AND ASKED FOR MY GRANDFATHER TO HELP HIM FIX IT.

I know because I was there looking after Granny and I answered the phone.

Do you know your spouse/SO's cell phone number (without looking it up)?

School board elections are happening tomorrow over much of the US. They're often low turnout, and that can enable extremists to get elected with only a small number of backers voting for them (as has happened in some PA communities not far from where I live). If your local school board's having elections, please research the candidates, plan to vote tomorrow, and encourage your neighbors to do the same.

Everyone thinks, haha, these squirrels don't even remember where they hid 90% of the nuts they store for the winter", but nobody ever asks if the squirrels might be out there thinking, my ancestors planted this forest that provides for us all, and my children's children will know the same of me.

The reason they're gutting the EPA is so 'farmers' can steal public water...you know...that thing that we are reminded is precious and not as obundant as it once was.

Your wetlands are about to become toxic. Also, rarer.

Touchscreen card devices may prevent blind customers paying

'Blind customers are being left "frustrated" and "embarrassed" by inaccessible payment devices. Some shops have buttonless touchscreen card readers, meaning you need sight to tap in your PIN'

Very short-sighted tech developers. They should have thought about this, and about the security issues. As should the businesses involved.

polish food

According to Google translate English doesn't distinguish between "ogórki kiszone" (with no vinegar, sour and salty) and "ogórki korniszone" (with vinegar, sweet and sour) and just says both are "pickles" when they are like completely different foods

Starting to see a lot of shitty AI images out there on the open web.

Here, badly done AI ants on Phys Org illustrating an article scraped from elsewhere.

My son was born at 1:30 a.m. on November 5.

We set the clocks back last night at 2:00 a.m.

That means we went through the hour of 1:00 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. twice.

That means we had his exact birth time twice today.

So he has a double birthday today, right?

@Grootinside TBH, accelerating climate change could very well lead to authoritarian systems, as we've seen throughout history. Strong-men tend to do well during chaos and famines.

#JustStopOil #protesters arrested after 10 minutes under UK’s ‘repressive’ new #AntiProtestLaws

The #UK is following in other #European countries footsteps with new powers to break up the #climate group's slow marches.

"More than 60 #CimateActivists have been arrested in #London under the UK’s 'repressive' new anti-protest laws.

"Just Stop Oil protesters were taking part in a ‘slow march’ around Parliament Square yesterday morning (30 October), demanding an end to new #oil and #gas licenses.

"Within 10 minutes, Metropolitan police arrived - blocking their path and forcing activists off the road. When this proved unsuccessful, videos and photos show police kneeling on and handcuffing protesters, before carrying them into vans.

"This is the first time that the Met have made arrests under section 7 of the #PublicOrderAct 2023, which bans any activity that 'interferes with the use or operation of any key national infrastructure in #England and #Wales.'

"It’s part of a wider European crackdown on #DirectAction protests. #France and #Germany have taken an #AntiTerror approach to some #demonstrations; toughening #surveillance and #detention laws and even launching dawn raids on the homes of #LastGeneration members."
