Madalena has been on a #ceramics rampage for a few months now.
Here's a cephalopod for the New Year.

"We don’t know what’s causing these deaths” (Covid isn’t mentioned)
“We were very surprised by that figure. Cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death among young people. To put that in perspective, it's more than 5x the road toll in that same age group.” https://t.co/SCLkFiFirD https://t.co/hAOCggrEPa

Looks like XBB.1.5 will be able to outcompete CH.1.1 and all other circulating lineages in #England, #UnitedKingdom
When the clock strikes midnight tonight, most of the published works from 1927 will move into the public domain in the US. Celebrate these works at one of our two Public Domain Day celebrations, January 19 & 20:

Here's a good summary by Eric Topol about the rise of the XBB.1.5 variant in New York. The United States is the first country to have a XBB.x subvariant become dominant.

Five selfish reasons to work reproducibly by Florian Markowetz
"And so, my fellow scientists: ask not what you can do for reproducibility; ask what reproducibility can do for you! Here, I present five reasons why working reproducibly pays off in the long run and is in the self-interest of every ambitious, career-oriented scientist". ⬇️

Decalogo di fine anno
10. Coltiva l'ironia. E' libertà dal mondo.
For anyone interested in keeping up with the latest variant, vaccine, and SARS-CoV-2 research, I just found this very user-friendly website that lists studies with most recent first, and organizes them into categories, (mechanism, transmission, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, Long Covid, case reports, forecasting, etc.).
You can also filter studies by country, or publication source.
