Hello, Mastodon!
What an unfortunate situation at Twitter, so here we are! I am a cell biology scientist that is all about YOUR amazing science and more!

As for an introduction, here you have a video from my research: Blood infection in vivo! #Zebrafish embryo infected with #Salmonella (green dots) and live imaged 10 hrs post-infection. Sensory #neurons (DRG, green) and #macrophages (magenta) detect and coordinate the body's anti-microbial response.

Just a quick introduction to the INMAN Lab.
The INMAN Lab is interested in how the human brain makes real, rich, complex memories that last and working on ways to fix episodic memory when it fails. Our ultimate goal is to explain real-world behavior in terms of the activities of the brain and to translate these discoveries into therapeutic approaches that can help those suffering from neural disorders.
We love connecting with everyone and hope that you’ll reach out to connect with us!

Thought I’d write a quick #introduction! I'm a Professor at the University of Toronto where my lab studies the neural and cognitive mechanisms supporting memory and perception.

Recently, we’ve launched a line of research that seeks to translate core principles from memory science into tangible solutions to mitigate memory loss. You can read about our first attempt here: psyarxiv.com/2fwup/.

Very happy to be part of the #NeuroscienceMigration and to connect with you here!

Society is capricious and irrational about when it will pay for the novelty of human labor over automation. We'll pay for a human to make us complicated coffee- that could be easily be automated, but not want to pay the exact same human to sketch our portrait or sing us a song.

Hi everyone! Here's my #introduction. I'm a PhD student working on fungal #genetics in the USA. I never found a lot of fungal geneticists at that ~other place~ (my PI doesn't use it, for instance) but I hope to have better luck here. I study regulation of nitrogen metabolism and would love to talk shop. #fungi

I need help. I've been trying to find and follow Black People in the sciences, history, politics, education, and other specialties.

I've failed miserably.

Can Mastodonians point me to (for starters) Black People in epidemiology and virology? Thank you!

New research looks at the effects of repeated Covid infections and finds pretty much what you would expect: you not only do not get any kind of superimmunity, you increase your risk of long-term consequences, hospitalization and death. The worse news is that this holds true regardless of vaccination status.

This is not over. Please take care. Mask up.

My suggestion if you want the Fediverse to work, follow and favorite and boost the absolute hell out of people. It’s not about dopamine or clout chasing, it’s about letting people know they’re not just typing into a void.

Illegal and unsustainable fishing, fossil fuel exploration, the climate crisis and disease are pushing marine species to the brink of extinction, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list, with populations of dugongs, abalone shellfish and pillar coral at risk of disappearing for ever.

If some researchers or an institutions are able to predict COVID-19 variants. How likely is that the methodology/software is open source?

Great to see that the Ottawa Public Library has 28 CO2 monitors that people can check out and borrow to verify ventilation in various spaces they visit. If you live in Ottawa these are now available if you want to try one out ( cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/otta ).

This is Maria Czechowska, my father's first wife. She remained in Warsaw during the German occupation but was caught working for the Polish resistance. She was taken to the Pawiak jail where her family managed to stop her immediate execution. However she was then taken to Auschwitz and murdered there on 10 January 1944. Prisoner number 69336. Remember her. #auschwitz

can we at least recognize that if AI is built by people who have been socialized in a systematically racist society that the AI will also be racist????
