20 November 1945 | The 1st Nuremberg Trial started. 24 political & military leaders of the German Third Reich were tried. Twelve were sentenced to death.

The purpose of the trial was not just to convict the defendants but also to assemble evidence of Nazi crimes, offer a history lesson to the defeated Germans, and delegitimize the traditional German elite.

#introduction My name is Yana Safonova, I am an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University.
My lab develops computational methods for analyzing adaptive immune responses and repertoires.
Research interests include (but not limited to) immunogenomics, antibody responses to COVID-19, HIV, and flu, comparative immunology, and co-evolution of pathogens and vertebrate immunity.

I am interested in using #NMR to understand biology, so my work varies from #biophysics #kinetics #dynamics #proteinfolding to #structuralbiology

An example of our collaborations, with @ak947 and @lapassmore where we showed that Fip1 dynamics are required for CPF activation. NMR was used to study the conformational dynamics of Fip1 within the 850-kDa CPF complex.

"We probed the B cell repertoire from peripheral blood of mothers with primary and secondary ZIKV infections and established 9 ZIKV-binding B lymphoblastoid cell lines (B-LCL). One of them produced an IgM antibody, DH1017.IgM, in its native pentameric conformation. DH1017.IgM was somatically mutated, did not cross-react with other flaviviruses, displayed ultrapotent ZIKV neutralization that depended on its isotype and protected mice from viremia more efficiently than the respective IgG upon lethal ZIKV challenge."
