@davew
I'd say "Don't use Chrome."
@masukomi I am all for Erlang-based systems for reliability and comprehensibility. But I don't see the need to scale to 1M followers.
It's very disheartening to see that in the space of a month, the majority of images on my feed went from being described to having not even one sentence as a description. I started ID-ing on tumblr but #Mastodon really encouraged me to make it an actual habit.
Please, if you're able to, add descriptions to the pics you post.

@🇦🇲 inky, from the tape 🌇 🕶 📷 🎞 👾 🦈 🐍 🦑 🎛 when i ran too many programs - hexchat, dino, terminal, surf2 browser, and connected the device to charge, i got a notification, that the device is currently using more energy than it gets. that's an interesting and very useful notification.
i did not expect to get something like that, and never saw something like that on other devices/operating systems.
that's an interesting nokia heritage.

@ocdtrekkie @rice somewhat like a NUC is Latte Panda, an Intel SBC. I haven't used it, so one would have to check up on the specs (e.g. it has soldered RAM, unlike PCs).
@masukomi do you mean something like #Epicyon https://epicyon.net ? Also, #XMPP PubSub must also be adjacent to AP, I guess.
@abhas A terminal on a wristwatch! Hilarious! But great for debugging, no doubt.
@TrechNex@masto.ai are they cautionary tales, though? Does anyone use FB Chat or G Talk?

@mjgardner Ah, just read your bio… Objectivism/Ayn Rand. No need to take this further, then. I guess we’re agreeing to disagree :)
Musings about faith
@khthoniaa I think faith gets a bad wrap, largely because of cultural backlash from the ways in which the term has been abused by Christianity. Faith is mislabeled as believing something without evidence, which I agree is a bad thing but also not what I understand the word to mean. In my experience Faith isn't about belief, but rather a deliberate choice to move without knowing. Many ways of living profess the necessity of absolute certainty, and I feel like this sort of approach tends to become life-denying rather than affirming. Nothing in life is guaranteed, and if we allow the fear of the unknown to arrest us we stagnate and wither. Life is, after all, a forward moving endeavor and faith can allow us to fulfill that demand without grinding down with inertia.
@srijan do not miss Kumbalgarh down south, the 2nd largest structure visible from space after the Great Wall of China.
when I do an apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade, I still get a little shiver of awe at the contributions of so many people to a common good #debian
@Bullix
> adults should know better
That was about US' Civil War, but it should apply to the vile handling of the indigenous and the black too. Especially politicians. Except they would have to consider reparations if they acknowledged knowing better.
