> collectivize the workload of self-hosting services
I think small localized or purpose-oriented collectives would be sustainable with 2 techies sharing the low but regular and diverse workload. I don't know if people collectivize at all though, unless it is for something big like politics or economy or environment. Otherwise, I know enough people to be running such a collective.

@emacsen

@emacsen not sure about e-mail verification but for forms, I recently heard about kobotoolbox.org on which @praveen may be able to add more. I discover such good alternative services every now and then, it is not all famine out there!

git horror

@daniel I avoided missteps like this in general, by not using Emacs shortcuts for everything. Some things are safer done by typing the full shell command or alias or even M-x emacs command name.

@fyrfli with a collaborative spreadsheet, you are "programming" in the most accessible way currently possible. why abandon it over or some missing last-mile scripting customization?

I say is a good replacement, there are many free services providing it. It doesn't have encryption, but maybe you could self-host it or look for a service that lets you use it only via VPN. or services, which are encrypted - paying cryptpad.fr for hosting your data would fund them too.

@stux @logan @Mastodon @Gargron @mastodonchonk Fahrenheit was the scientist. The temperature scale is Fahrenheit's monster.

Repetition for new readers.
To "deal with it", resolve the bugs, not introduction of gratuitous new features.
Want to contribute to documentation, but extant programmers have no interest in robust quality assurance. Documentation has to be co-ordinated with software development, otherwise authors, testers will lose motivation to work with programmers that are more interested in "new features" than software quality.
Again, permissions management (one of the best conceptual features hubzilla) remains in need of quality control and accurate documentation. Despite a "long time ago", the culture remains unchanged.
Recent (failed) attempts by non-European countries for the "developed" world to pay environmental reparations _alone_ (let us ignore the political, social reparations for now), is a good example of attempts to protect eu citizens from the realities of their behaviours.
Until those throughout Aotearoa start to _actively_ reduce proprietary software dorminance in schools, there will not be the necessary culture change. Unfortunately, the history of free(dom) software advocates has been to ignore early education.
@lightweight @arin_basu @DrCuriosity Embrace Extend Extinguish never went away, it just got smarter.

@lightweight It could, but you can think of the government as being more of a geographically branded megacorporation. As such they have far more solidarity with other large businesses than with muggins here running ActivityPub on a laptop.

Alternatively (as in diaspora protocol), do not allow any edits of posts (distributed ledger style)

@jens sure you'd know about it, but have you tried memoization-based "build systems" like memoize.py? not sure why projects haven't used that or that approach more @loke

@strypey ditto

@alcinnz there is no sense in not being aware of prior art, and I was not sure if FirefoxOS/WebOS was known to @logan if nothing else, the set-in-stone browser component of the architecture means the new kernel can be tested against WebOS's desktop/home screen and apps.

@SymbolicCity if ActivityPub isn't a hard requirement, loomio.com is good for this purpose and more @kensanata

I hope I explained it right.

#Nomadic #identity is probably the toughest thing to get an explanation for on the internet. But it's so useful and important I wonder why other #Fediverse protocols don't have that except #Zot.

@logan I second what @strypey said, and also point out that Mozilla FirefoxOS/LG WebOS describe exactly what you are describing and are free/open source @alcinnz
