#CalyxOS overhauled their work profile support with the release of 3.8.0 earlier this month. Has anyone tried it? https://calyxos.org/news/2022/09/02/android-12L-pixels-fp4/
Personally I'm still using #Shelter. It's worked well for so long, and I'm hesitant to fix what isn't broken.
#SelfHosted anybody using the Mapleboard for home NAS and VPN use? Can its USB port reliably power a HDD of any size? Or any alternative well-packaged SBC that can do this?
I don't want to stop at a consumer NAS like Synology/ASUSTOR/QNAP, I'd rather have the flexibility of running other services on it.

@henningtillmann @pixelfed Non-specific threat announced plus a request for money with no reason for the donation. Hmm.... I'm skeptical.
@stpaultim @roadriverrail I specifically was an informal advisor on Searchtodon (having been internet friends with its creator for about a decade), and I thought it was an interesting project, and I think it was misunderstood, *and* I think it would have been better as something hosted by instance admins where people could fully defederate from servers that use it.
@stpaultim @darius If you see VCs and “startup” folks sniffing around something, you can be sure it’s not because they’re there to contribute to the commons but to enclose it. It’s how they got to be what they are. It’s what they do. And if we still can’t see this and protect ourselves and the commons from them, we’re destined to be exploited over and over again.
@dcz I read about SWI-prolog's persistence library which uses sqlite as a backing store for the facts? Or do you already have data in sqlite?
Okay, putting up with #Prolog's warts is slowly proving to be a win. It seems that I can emulate a CPU in both directions with only a little extra effort. I hope.
This would put the "reverse" into #REverseengineering .
@kkarhan
but it's a MeDiCaL sChOoL and so security is only possible if you lock down every possible action and create an extremely brittle outer perimeter, inside which it is possible for anyone to view the entire prod employee database from a link sent to you in an email from IT in response to your ticket about how their ticket submission page exposes a full list of all employees including full names and email addresses and a real-time ticker of who is active and logged in at any given moment.
It seems odd to me - watching the shift towards video as the default medium in news stories online.
99% of the time, I don't want to watch a video. I want to read the story. I want the information.
Video is okay in support of the text of the report - but I generally want the text first & foremost. The facts, the data.
When I click a news link - and turns out it is just a video link & no text - I generally bail before the video plays.
@saulojacques so Ecuador undoes a little part of what it wrought? Though it can't do anything about having given up Assange. @jaromil
@Jonathanglick I didn't get the "mental leap to think of atoms". What could the Industrial-age scientist have had on Greek tradition thinkers, that make their taking such a "mental leap" credible but not traditional thinkers'? As I understand, Europe well before the Dark ages was quite bright! Conditions for thinkers might have been better than in the Industrial age.

#TIL https://thesearch.space is/was a podcast on #LogicProgramming. The 1st episode with #Prolog pioneer Robert Kowalski is gold! Looking forward to listening to the 5th episode with the author or #TerminusDB .
@raineer @andrew@trivial.business people seem very happy with photos on a NAS like Synology and let photos pulled on their smartphone on demand.
NZ politics - term limit for PM
@strypey I guess we have to leave it at "parties are more important" versus "leaders are more important". I tend towards the latter, because parties fail at implementing their election manifestos citing difficulties within and across parties (YMMV). With leaders front and centre, there is an incentive to walk the talk and maintain their image.
Can anything really be done about election propaganda, whether parties or personalities?

#ShowerThoughts could the #PlainText format wars be nullified by a configurable parser for formatted text, with a canonical form for its configuration?
The configuration could be simpler than a parser grammar, given the plain-text context - it could be a specification of the sigils for different sections of text. Given configurations for standard #Markdown #ASCIIdoc #ReStructuredText , it would be easy to parse variants by patching the configuration since it would be in a canonical form.
