@drdrowland If you respond to yourself, it's still visible in the timelines... I think a solution would be to make your responses unlisted (click on the world icon and change into unlisted). That way you won't spam the public timelines beyond your first post.

@drdrowland If it is any consolation, anyone can block and/or mute you? ;)

Though it probably helps if you give your stuff certain hashtags so people can filter it out.

@pj I should have waited a little bit longer. Yeah, they breached water, it indeed looks like it's filmed from above.

@peterdrake Yeah, subscribing's possible. Their posts can come with a delay and might have some missing. A server block makes the whole thing a bit iffy, but it's something.

I am also subscribed to somebody from that instance. He can't see my posts, but I can respond to them. And others from other instances who also follow him can interact with me. It's kinda funny. :P

@pj Oh they look vertical. If I recall correctly, that means they're asleep.

@pj It probably would go PSSSSHT, or PSSSSSSH, or CRACKLE (And then a blackout).

@peterdrake Yeah when a server blocks Qoto that one might be hit or miss. If you don't mind me asking, what account would that be so I can see it too?

@josemanuel There's a difference between crossposting TO Twitter (which we likely wouldn't notice) and crossposting FROM Twitter (which we likely would notice).

@drdrowland Yes, you can follow Pixelfed users from here. Their posts will be looking the same as all other posts you see in our timelines, but over there at Pixelfed you'd be able to have a collection going and such.

You could just check it out. If it's not working for you then you can drop the idea of Pixelfed and just post the pics here with your posts a la Twitter. :)

But this is the power of Federated software. PeerTube is a YouTube alternative, and I can follow their accounts/channels from the comfort of my Mastodon account as well. When you check the Federated Timeline, chances are you already saw a lot of non-Mastodon posts that you were simply not aware of.

It's all pretty spiffy and will only get better in the future. :)

@drdrowland Ooh. If you're heavily into displaying images, and want a federated photo album, maybe a Pixelfed instance might be of interest to you. It's basically the Fediverse's answer to Instagram.

You can check out pixelfed.org where you can also choose a server just like you had to with Mastodon.

@dichotomiker
What about this scenario:
I don't follow Foo.
Foo is not on my instance.
Nobody on my instance follows Foo.
I follow somebody from another instance who boosted Foo.
I should see Foo's boosted post on my home timeline.

Doesn't seem to be covered in that image.

@lydiaconwell Too bad! I'll change my profile picture again after Halloween is over! :P

@drdrowland That's very possible. Everything new is always prone to investigating first before you grok it reasonably well.

@drdrowland I dunno, I found Twitter to be way more complicated.

But you're right, Mastodon indeed seems better than Twitter. ;)

@lydiaconwell Hehe. I have to be diplomatic, he's my neighbour. :P

But he can perfectly wait until I'm feeling healthy again before I work in the garden again. Otherwise he can do it himself, indeed.

@peterdrake Every Mastodon account has an RSS feed. Basically subscribing here means not following them, but subscribing to their RSS feed instead.

It's useful for a few cases. For example, their server might've blocked Qoto, but we can still see their content (sorta), then we can follow their public posts by subscribing.
Or they have a locked account where they are very strict on accepting new followers, but you like their posts and then you could subscribe to them so you don't miss out on their cool posts.

@MightyHumbleBumble I'd suggest to use the web interface instead, it is very mobile friendly. Qoto is a modified Mastodon instance, thus many apps might not play very nicely with this.
