The Fediverse has more platforms than just Mastodon. Only Mastodon used Toot.

@chee If you meant to interact with them I'd recommend using the reply feature instead.

The quote-toot is making a first post (breaking any conversation threads) and just have someone's toot quoted to bring it to attention. They're not getting notified of what you just asked.

@daeyoung @strawd Mastodon is heavily hashtag-driven, there's no plain text search (and there's a historical reason for that).
So, if someone's talking about a fire in colorado, they might want to hashtag colorado at least if they want to be discovered by others.

On top, we have public feeds where anyone can see their posts (unless it's marked as unlisted).

@grudgecat We don't block by default on Qoto since Qoto give that power to the users.

But we have nifty block tools, you can even block whole domains. So if there's a server full off asshats.. well, bye bye server from your feeds!

@bykimbo Yeah, I've read about this a bit. Some people weren't very positive about it. The graphics seem a bit.. well.. overdone to me. I enjoyed the book though. Terry Pratchett ftw.

@caleb There'll always be a few returning, we had that too with our last wave. I'll be happy enough if a bunch decide to stay, which'll more than likely happen too.

@ErikaDesign Take your time. ;) If you don't understand something about Mastodon you could always ask the public at large with a mastodon hashtag. ;) Or something else with their appropriate hashtags. ;)

@blake Yes, they can. Mastodon isn't the only platform on the Fediverse, there are others handling huge posts that default Mastodon can see too.

@kristinmbranson @rugk When you're on an external page on someone's profile page, you can copy the URL and paste it in your own Mastodon interface's search bar. Then you can follow easily from the convenience of your own environment.
