I've been on here for a while, but hey, since there's an influx of users that might still see the original instance
Greetings, fellow Mastodorks! I am Anatoly Shashkin, the DOS guy. I mainly talk about stuff related to IBM PC and MS-DOS gaming. Tell me about your DOS memories or recent DOS escapades. 💾

@abde And people can always figure it out later and move on to another instance. I started out on .social as well until I figured out that there are other instances with bigger post size limits. ;)

@tho@c.im Flemish is Dutch that's spoken in Belgium.

I believe that's the basic gist of it.

I think Dutchies would be tempted to say that Flemish is a dialect... but it is simply Dutch that's spoken in Flanders.. and because it's a different region, different culture, the kind of Dutch differs too.

Just like Austria and Germany both speak German... but yet they differ from each other as well.

By the way, if you are starting up your own fediverse server, it may be tempting to blindly copy someone else's block list, but some corners of the fediverse have been a bit over eager with full instance bans, in my opinion, which tends to break the whole federation model (imagine if you couldn't email anyone with a certain university's email domain because your email provider disagrees with the university policies).

If an instance is putting a lot of irritating stuff in your server's global timeline, it might be better to just mute them from the global timeline.

@albertcardona And, improtantly, no pesky algorithm deciding what you should see.

@shakiguani @engelbart Qoto is one of the most connected servers and has almost no blocks in place. Some servers block us with that as reason. Not much we can do about it, we certainly welcome federation.

@shakiguani toot.cat has blocked qoto.org according to their About page. The migrate feature won't work between servers which can't comunicate with each other. Anyone on Qoto.org won't be able to follow you there.

Good luck with your new home!

@brandonb_phy For some reason it looks to me like Orion's up to some mischief!

@mathieualain You're on Mastodon.social and that's hit real hard by the new wave of users, so yeah. The smaller instances don't have this problem much.

And personally I prefer to use the mobile web interface as that's already mobile friendly. On top of that I'm on a modified instance, which has extra features that the apps won't cover. You use default Mastodon there, I'd say Fedilab is pretty decent, as is Tusky.

@louiscouture Ah glad that it isn't severe (yet). Well, then just have a great weekend! And glad that Monday is covered!

@TJ_dacks Excellent! Hope your experience here's improved now! :)

@louiscouture Ah darn. Well, it is weekend, so just try to relax and listen to cool stuff?

@TJ_dacks That's strange, because slow mode adds a clickable 'x new items' on top which then shows new content after clicking on it. Try reloading the site?

Have you saved the changes after selecting slow mode? Might be that it got overlooked as the save button is at the top.

@TJ_dacks I generally use the web interface because Qoto has extra features which won't get reflected properly in most apps.

Would using another browser be an option? There's Vivaldi for Android that I use which seems to work fine.

If you really want an app, people have reported Fedilab or Tusky working okay with this instance.

I can also recommend turning on the 'Slow' option in the settings, maybe that's the cause for the scrolling.

Welcome to Qoto and the Fediverse, by the way!

@amytabb That's cute. At my parents' place there's a woodpecker family visiting regularly to get some food from the feeders. :)

@albertcardona That's the way to go, organizations having their own instances!

@manjuggm Quite a long read, but it's fairly good. Seems accurate enough to me.

It doesn't take into account that various instances can have modifications. So we have quote-toots on Qoto, but the default Mastodon doesn't have that.
I can see the dunking issue, but since we're a STEM oriented instance, our quote-toot usually is used for displaying other interesting scientific stuff I've noticed.
