@rml ah! I didn't realize that Haskell had that problem. Yeah, I find that Clojure spoils me whenever I work in other environments where I need to be fearful of breaking changes when updating. I forget to be careful and get stung!
@rml it took me a re-read to grok that, but you make good points: programmer first, and pragmatism
@icedquinn I would take heart if they ever displayed some sense of regret, but it's not on their radar at all

I just realized that the career of "content creator" may be incompatible with tech ethics in the same way that "prostitute" is an incompatible career with "Christian preacher." And all gamers I'm aware of (see what I did there?) are content creators, too.

Going over my opening talk to the company about the failed promise of the Internet to democratize information.
"The internet made a wrong turn. It started with ads.... this is one of the things that Ev really got write with our subscription... you just can't do anything positive in the world with an ad model."
That's basically my world view. In a capitalist society, the best things are going to be build around a direct payment model. And yes, I've heard of Open Source. It only goes so far.
I just learned of https://gitolite.com/gitolite/overview.html, which seems to be an alternative to #git forges like Github and Gitlab. If I'm not mistaken, I don't manage repos large enough to need it. But I love to see #GPL #FOSS stuff and to learn that some really big players are using #gitolite (Redhat, the Linux Kernel, KDE).
@samplereality was that a self-imposed restraint or were you using a tool that enforced it?

@samplereality I haven't inspected it, but the gentle motion, the white-on-black, and the fading/coming in to focus of things. I spend much of my time coding and would get distracted by, "how can I make it do this?"
@samplereality That was amazing and touching. That kind of expression means that you were not inhibited/distracted by technical matters; what did you use that you could express yourself so artfully?

I have a digital poem in the new issue of *Taper*. It's called "One for Grundy" and was written/coded as I was struggling to make sense of my father's sudden passing in January. I turned to two beloved nursery rhymes from my childhood about the circle of life. The poem intermingles them, confuses them, rewrites them. Hit "More" to see other versions. And view source to see more from me about the poem. Like everything *Taper* publishes, there are strict constraints, in this case the code/poem could be no more than 2k in size.

Predictable conclusion of the NPM debacle: failed to load due to a circular dependency somewhere.
@souldessin I think I have a solution (checking this morning). This isn't as trivial as the Toasts we implemented recently because autocomplete needs to interact with data binding and with APIs, and support keystrokes and fuzzy matching. I am trying to avoid re-implementing all that.

@rml `geiser-no-values`. I'm having big issues with Geiser, too.
I just want an autocomplete select on my site that will play nice with React. So I choose react-select. Over 3300 NPM dependencies downloaded and I feel sick.
