@brunoleuschner @bbcworld I guess even the BBC has succumbed to click baiting headlines. Everything must have extreme emotion attached to it or it get ignored I suppose.

Sure, the City of Calgary's proposed property tax increase is 3.65%, but one of the attachments as part of the overall budget also highlights user fee increases in almost every department. An example below is the proposed user fee increases for transit. We need to talk about user fees as well because we often times tout Calgary as a low tax jurisdiction, but we hide other increases. #yyc #yyccc #yyctransit
Own your words, my friends. Backup your words. Don’t put them into walled gardens that may grow weeds and disappear. https://www.hanselman.com/blog/your-words-are-wasted (2012)
In case you haven't heard, at Hugging Face we are building wikipedia-like crowdsource documentation on machine learning tasks 📚 Every page has simply put information on implementing machine learning tasks and building your first proof-of-concept without diving deep into nitty gritty of maths of machine learning 🤩 https://huggingface.co/tasks
@sbglasius 👋🏼 … at javabubble.org you can checkpoint a list of #java folks that are here on #mastodon … or special service from me to you:
Download the following file and import it as people to follow:

I know how to wrap it up and get it upstream, but the only reason I have the energy left to do this is rmk already dealt with the bulk of the pain, and I happen to have more experience than him with the issue that was the final straw for his attempt.
It shouldn't be this way.
Layoffs
I find it odd how frequently leadership and HR lie when there appears to be little to no upside and a fairly large downside.
E.g., the recent FB layoffs. I was chatting with a friend of mine who's a very senior IC about the layoffs there and his read is that the worst thing about the layoffs was the misleading messaging from the company leading up to the layoffs in way that seems likely to permanently reduce trust in future leadership and HR messaging.

In principle, this makes Twitter a juicy PE target, which is what Elon and VCs seemed to think before buying (https://danluu.com/elon-twitter-texts/):
1. Buy company
2. Cut costs
3. Profit
But, if you look at how PE firms operate, even specialist PE firms, e.g., a specialist firm that operates in the steel industry, those firms typically do takeovers where you can turn big knobs to cut costs; the things above would be considered very sophisticated and ∴ risky.
The most unethical thing I was asked to build while working at Twitter in 2015

#FediTips (or perhaps #FediWarnings?):
Something I discovered the other day on accident is in Mastodon and derivative software, if you are sending someone a DM, and you spontaneously tag someone in the middle of the message, *that person now has read access to the DM in which they're mentioned*. This is a neat feature if you're using it on purpose but could be awkward if you're just trying to link an account and suddenly that account can see you talking about them…!
Facts, not wishful thinking.
