@pamby1 @Sydneykaye01 @Bleukitty
Just noticed that you have MAGA in your name, Having a media industry that speaks the truth based on evidence BUT still allows debate and expression of opposing views (with evidence to form arguments) will be a huge step in the right direction.
The UK could learn but seems where the US leads others follow, so it is time for the US to lead,.
@pamby1 @Sydneykaye01 @Bleukitty
I am sure the UK has given many people e.g social media companies, and tech conpanies etc a chance to self regulate and get their act together on abuse and other issues. They have failed to do so, hence state regulation (online harms bill)
We also have regulation of the media, utilities (gas, electricity etc) it needs to happen to safeguard people from misleading information.
https://askforevidence.org/index
is a good website for this.
Why is no one calling the media out for not presenting the FACTS of the case. ?
Does the US have a media regulator like we have in the UK?
@cat You should add you are happy to use Big Blue Button or Jitsi
give some decent replacements a plug. :D
If I host a meeting, the camera being ON is optional.
@Azure A good reason to get together with others and volunteer to do the job properly.
While I am running code club, we are mostly doing our own thing, which works really well.
@johnabs I cant speak to your wife and in no way claiming her diagnosis isnt real. But I am of the opinion that 99% of high functioning autism doesnt exist. These are just the few mentally healthy people out of the society who dont play into the toxic social bullshit of everyone else.. People considered "autistic" in america would be popular kids in any social circle in europe.
@stux Because it's entertaining to overthrow people's expectations! This is the fediverse, after all! It's not just Twitter 2 😜
@kaia I would take advice from medical professionals rather then youtube videos.

Why is Replicant so out of date? How are these alternatives going to be true replacements if they are not up to date, at least from a security viewpoint.

I can upload a picture
click edit
click to analyse the text, it stats by saying preparing OCR then says analysing text.
After that nothing happens.
I am not sure if something is happening in the background or if the process has simply stopped.
A good reason to understand how to search and find accurate information.
Don't be fooled by the metaverse bling... "The tech giants are paying millions of dollars to the operators of clickbait pages, bankrolling the deterioration of information ecosystems around the world." #BigTech

Hello Fediverse! I’ve had several people express interest in #Kiva after I posted about it recently. This inspired me to create a Fediverse Kiva team.
If you don’t know what Kiva is: it’s a philanthropic micro-lending organization that matches people who need small loans (typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars) with people who are willing to lend. When a loan is repaid, those funds become available for you to lend again (or cash-out if you choose) thus multiplying your impact!
It’s a really neat program, I highly encourage people to check out (https://www.kiva.org), and if you do decide to sign up, join the Fediverse team to show solidarity with your fellow Fedi givers:

#GivingTuesday is coming up on December 1st. If 10 new people from the Fediverse join the Kiva Fediverse team by December 1st, I will fund 10 $25 loan credits for the people who signed up! If more than 10 people join the team, I will pick 10 team members at random to receive the $25 credits.
If you have questions about Kiva before signing up, I will do my best to answer them.
Shares and boosts appreciated.
