@rgegriff Yeah, very concerning that, the meta verse will also perhaps appeal to younger users, so their dream of grooming the next generation for a life of data collection will come true.

I have written a short article for my local community magazine thing.

I would to get this in well before the Dec 13th Deadline as it can then hopefully go in to the January issue.

I am trying to keep this at a level for the avg (non technical) person to read, but not shy away from some of the terminology associated with the fediverse.

It helps less when local services from the council, there are meetings ON facebook so there is an assumption either everyone uses it, or everyone wants to use facebook.

We are all humans but I think here we are holding on to something more valuable , ethical and moral values and a sense of community.

At least we can have a laugh when facebook or other internet services go down and users starts to panic thinking the whole internet has broken.

Here mastodon.social goes down and the best comment is about this happens and we should give the admin time to fix it.

Seems really inappropriate but these days anything goes I guess. Christmas for companies is about making a fast buck.

@rixty_dixet I think people have become obsessed with money, and wanting to be the centre of attention, there was a post linking to an article on narcissistic behaviour a while back.

I will stick to the fediverse as it seems far more friendly, not obsessed with money or profits and there is an actual desire for governance for everyone's benefit.

How we convince the masses of that is a different matter, in the mean time lets just build a community that is strong.
