Me, a #Mastodon newcomer: "I'd better not follow too many people until I get the hang of this"
You, driving by my feed: #introductions I like #Linux and #FOSS and #Coffee and #Coding and #ElectronicMusic and #Science and #Socialism and #Cats and #Games and #AllTheThingsYouLike and damn I'm hitting that Follow button again.
I think a lot of children / young people do, I am NOT parent but I can understand why this is a topic which is or can be difficult to discuss with children.
There are a few regions of Germany who use / or even mandate the use of Free software. So this makes sense.
Woah - German government has got its own Mastodon instance and most of the ministries and many agencies already have accounts.
Verification problem at least partially solved - just need to check the domain is right!
I've also seen newspapers like theatlantic.com set up instances themselves. Looks like verification will be worked out sooner or later.

Don't feel bad about unfollowing people or actually being unfollowed, I am sure there is nothing personal.
Good blog post on how to get the most out of this #openweb life https://blog.djnavarro.net/posts/2022-11-03_what-i-know-about-mastodon/#how-do-i-move-my-account-to-a-new-server
I am not sure which law this was, but it was on the news the other day that the state governor had done that, something internet related.
I think many are looking at the UK online safety bill ( if it ever gets in to law) as an example of legislation..
@jamatri I find people can have conversations as they are not as polarised on a topic
or people are just more rational hence they came here in the first place, we agree to disagree or back up our statements with evidence to form arguments.
Not sure, we have been around for some time, just I think we prefer to focus on building the alternative.
We don't have the budget for mass marketing, so I think it is usually down to people to spread the word and talk to people. Sometimes this is just more effective.
Seems people knew about Mastodon, but didn't join as people they know are not here It seems with what has happened at Twitter people have just snapped and decided to ;eave en masse.
But even facebook are finding investors and others are losing confidence in these platforms.
Ok folks who are some of your favorite people who have been on here for a while tooting about technology and online culture? Looking for smart people to follow and would love recs!
