So, #introduction time!

Hello, I'm Ellie, I'm a web designer based in Bedfordshire, UK. I do a bit of art/design and music in my spare time when I have the inspiration and energy. I mostly do electronic music but listen to all kinds of stuff, I'll listen to pretty much anything except yodelling. 😜 I've always had a bit of an interest in typography, I should probably delve into that a bit more... Also, I'd buy more Lego it it was cheaper!

Red Winged Blackbird.

My wife and I took a trip to Sunset, Louisiana yesterday. We stopped at a rest area along the way, and I noticed some birds in the area. I snapped some photos. Among the species were boat-tailed grackles, house sparrows, a great egret, and some of these red winged blackbirds.

"One of the most abundant birds across North America, and one of the most boldly colored, the Red-winged Blackbird is a familiar sight atop cattails, along soggy roadsides, and on telephone wires. Glossy-black males have scarlet-and-yellow shoulder patches they can puff up or hide depending on how confident they feel. Females are a subdued, streaky brown, almost like a large, dark sparrow. Their early and tumbling song are happy indications of the return of spring." - allaboutbirds.org

Taught an incredibly fun workshop on good research practices to PhD students. Dear supervisors, just so you know, the most common request from your PhD students is that you will also follow training in this. Yes, you have learned and improved the last decade! And yes, they still want you to do a course like this!

I've seen several people share the #TyreNichols lynching video here. If you're thinking of doing that -- or boosting one of those posts -- keep in mind this perspective from Kimberlé Crenshaw of African-American Policy Form on Twitter

Also Auckland people as someone who's worked in water infrastructure please try to keep a good set of gloves on and keep washing your hands or use a disinfectant before eating and drinking or putting your hand near your face after dealing with the clean up remember that all the water has potential come into contact with sewer mains so you could get potentially very sick.

The mindset of Quebec hospitals:

A dying elderly patient can't be admitted to the palliative unit because she has Covid. She's in pain but is denied sedatives because there's a rule that it's only done in the palliative unit.

The hospital yields when they find out she's the widow of the late premier Robert Bourassa.

They later announce they will review their policy -- when a newspaper is going to publish the story.
