@thelinuxEXP

I have not used windows on a desktop for 10 years, have to put up with it at code club, tried to create a simple sign in word a while back, and gave up

I just wrote sign on piece of paper.

We have i3s with 4gb ram, they should really be quicker.

ZX spectrum can load a game from tape quicker than these computers boot up so they are ready to use.

@kyle

This looks nice, I have written mine in LaTeX too. With regard to updating, surely this should be an ongoing process regaardless of if you are in work, outof work, or in education etc.

Reasoning here, is that we are constantly developing our skills or updating existing skills. So keeping a CV updated means that it is ready to go, should a vacancy come up.

A cv is also a reference to courses undertaken, for us in the UK we have application forms to apply for school jobs, so a cv can be used to help fill in the various sections required.

If we keep this document maintained, it is less of a hurdle when it comes to updating when we need to do so ASAP.

@kentparkstreet@aus.social

There is a difference between reading and comprehension, If people are not seeing the intended meaning of the parable then perhaps they lack the comprehension skills.

@GregDance @dmoser

The bbc report this morning 'farm to fork' highlighted 2 things, farmers not getting the money to cover the cost of producing food, but also the lack of people to work on farms to pick the food.

If a farmer is not getting enough money in the first place, where are the funds going to come fromk to employ more people to pick the food out of the ground?

To hire more staff you need to have the money to do so, surely?

@danhon

I can do that on qoto. However we are a science themed instance.

@webshinra @ianrosewrites @fsfe

I am sure there has also been discussions with regard to how the AI gets code or what happens when the AI finds or uses GPL code.

@webshinra @ianrosewrites @fsfe

I was thinking about what the post said about AI being someone elses work, if the AI just goes off and finds content from others, has the actual AI written it.

These stickers / statements are good to get people thinking / talking about the topic.

We are in danger of perhaps being seduced by the technology, so just having a discussion is a good thing.

@MicrobialLife

Maybe the issue is we focus on the global problem, if people could focus on the local environment, try and get better public transit, trains, cycle lanes, ( and have local government actually listen and act) then people would see change on a wider level, in turn this would have a massive global impact in terms of combined effort.

Well this resonates...
- a #DoomLoop on #climatechange (see article in the Guardian)

This feeling of hopelessness and that we have left it too late on the #climatecrisis has been a repeating theme I've been seeing here on #Mastodon and elsewhere with every piece of bad news in climate science predictions and current real-life impacts.

Whilst it is all hugely confronting, we must fight on - every single step we take to reduce emissions, every fraction of a degree of temperature increase we can prevent and every single habitat and environment we can protect is worth fighting for.

There I go again with hope and optimism and my ongoing call for action. The alternative though of giving in and letting it happen is far too painful to submit to and would mean that the #fossilfuel industry's campaign will have been successful.

@eibhlinmaccoll

We just need to convince people of this, when they are tied so much into mainstream social media.

I really hope the concept of the fediverse takes off. Having social media completely independent of huge corporate interests would be a huge step toward helping people realize the power of decentralization

@Tilopa@convo.casa

I agree there, the US system is like a drama on steroids, never a dull moment.

@verdantsquare

And the UK government welcomed this Transphobic bigot in to the country to talk to the foreign secretary.

@verdantsquare

Given the FBI is funded by tax, as in by the public they should explain themselves fully to the American public / taxpayer.

please, anyone with experience with Sass / NPM, i desperately need help, i promise it’s a simple problem but i’m completely lost

@MattHodges

Sounds interesting, how does that work? can I set a time limit on posts so some are deleted after a period of time? That could be useful for event posts, as once the event has passed there is little point in using up server resources storing it.

@Tilopa@convo.casa

Yes indeed, very worrying, and the UK is heading in the wrong direction too.

To generate true random numbers, you could integrate some radioactive probe and a Geiger detector tube into a computer. Alternatively (and cheaper), amplify the noise produced by a avalange diode (Zener diode with more than 5.6 V) and pipe it into some ADC.
