You're right. Plus these vapes are bright colours and have names clearly design to appeal to younger users.
I get the impression from tbe BBC reports vapes are meant for existing smokers so they are no longer smoking cigarettes. So not designed for people to actually start smoking, only as they still have nicotine they are clearly still addictive.
I wonder who is behind all this littering, young people are constantly having a 'go' at the older generation(s) for ruining the planet and their future, so if they are behind this littering it cries loudly of hypocracy. But that is a different matter.
We just need to better target these illegal vapes, that can contain anything or as the article states higher quantities than normal. Surely this is also an issue a job for trading standards and the border force such as customs and excise.
There are lots of items bought online such as legal medication that can contain any number of chemicals,(at leat according to the BBC consumer programs, such as fake britain, watchdog etc).
The UK government cut back on so much, we are now paying a heavy price.
BTW what does BITD stand for?
Perhaps in terms of education, telling youmg peple xyz is bad for you in non science lessons is not the answer, perhaps what would be the answer is to look at this in Science, look at elements such as lead and other heavy metals in the periodic table, where they come from etc, but also how these substances can get in to the body, and the effects of this. Find statistics (maths) and corrlete the two together.
So not just from vaping, these disposable vapes have batteries that get thrown in the bin, bin contents go to landfill, batteries break down and these chemicals leach in to the soil and probably end up in the water system.
So actually get the kids to find out and discuss, may be a more effective way of teaching the dangers generally.
Shell AGM: Climate activists storm shareholder meeting
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-65609795
Interesting, as there does't seem to be any mention of the current court action against shell, granted the judge is set to rule the appeal so the action can proceed, but you would think this would get a mention too.
If these groups could all work togehter they could increase the pressure via the same legal action.
Vaping: High lead and nickel found in illegal vapes
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-65614078
It seems our government are sending out packs to schools to help teach kids 11+ about the dangers of vaping. Based on the above however, it seems that kids of 11 are already vaping so we need to target younger children with this.
The longer this lot stay in power, the UK is going to fail endlessly to get a grip on anything.

The fediverse seems to be leading the way in terms of getting these stories out.
Immigration curbs on families of foreign students
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65683046
It seems to be that the UK government are so desperate to cut migration, they will do anything.
Nothing so far has worked, we are throwing 100s of millions in to apparently targeting people smugglers and nothing is actually changing. People are still making the dangerous crossing over the channel, the busying shipping lane in the world.
Why not follow the US example, I get the impression the US has now opened up centres in central America to deal with asylum claims. Which is what the UK should be doing. Put the people smuggling gangs out of business, by offering proper alternatives.

My wife's cousin just died, and the non-religious daughter is having it out with the religious son about whether to honor their mother's verbal wishes expressed to the daughter—cremation + no funeral—vs. a religious funeral.
PSA: Parents, WRITE DOWN YOUR FUNERAL WISHES and make sure your kids know where that document is.
Also, you need a will, a healthcare proxy, and advance directives.
Don't leave behind a mess for your kids to deal with at a terrible time.

We're are underway with the #OceanIceEO workshop on Earth Observation data in Copenhagen.
Good point
Possibly 🌶️ statement, but I'd much prefer a train with a working bathroom over a train with working Internet.
Well under the GDPR data can only be collected for the purpose a person agrees it is collected for. So for example I may ask for your contact info at a club, so I can get in touch if something is cancelled or other club related reason.
If facebook federated with qoto, then I have NOT consented to my data being collected by them. I am not sure how federation / AP works in this respect but I understand some data needs to go between instances so we can share posts.
The data asked for by instances seems to be minimal, so I am not sure what metrics can be collected, other than the fact people here are very concerned about the GOP.
If people try to advertise here, we can simply block / mute them.
I would be more concerned about any threats to the LGBTQA AND other commuities (esp minorities) who feel safe here, hence they are on Fedi, and consequences from cesspits such as meta who care more for profits than human lives or human rights (or seem to).
Meta have just been issued with a huge fine for mis-handling data.
I just hope that turning off AI, is easier than trying to get out of emacs.:)
Why are so many climate scientists so scared and so angry?
Maybe it's because they know better than most of us how bad our situation today truly is, and how horribly we've been betrayed by our so-called leaders.
Here's an excerpt from an excellent piece on this subject by Alan Urban...

Even if the planet stopped getting warmer right now, we would still be in big trouble. The ice caps would keep melting and sea levels would keep rising.
Look at what’s happening at a mere 1.2°C of warming. We’re already seeing some of the worst heat waves in human history, not to mention record-breaking floods, droughts, wildfires, and water shortages.
But of course, warming isn’t going to stop at 1.2°C. Because of the heat we’ve already trapped in the atmosphere, and because we continue to emit huge amounts of greenhouse gases every year, the climate is warming exponentially.
All of these climate-related crises are stretching farms to the limit, yet this is just the beginning. As crop yields decline and the population grows, we will see food insecurity get worse and worse until we’re in a global famine.
And that right there is why climate scientists are scared. They understand that human civilization was born during the Holocene, when global temperatures were very stable and stayed within a range of about 1°C.
As we push the planet out of that range and raise the temperature about 50 times faster than would occur naturally, it will become harder and harder to produce enough food to feed everyone, and this will lead to social instability, political upheaval, the worst migration crisis ever, and wars over resources.
Disasters that weren’t supposed to happen until we reached 1.5°C are happening now, so we can only imagine what will happen when we hit 2° or 3°C.
This is why top scientists from around the world are warning us that we face a ghastly future filled with untold suffering. They’ve been telling us over and over, year after year, summit after summit, that we have to stop burning fossil fuels as quickly as possible. But as you can see [below], the world keeps ignoring them.

The problem is warmer periods are warmer and getting warmer, this of course leads to more evaporation and at some point more precipitation, which leads to flooding.
I don't think it means that we will get consistently warm / hot weather, the changes mean things like hurricanes will be more frequent and perhaps more intense. We get more flooding, with ice caps melting we get sea rises.
As there are ocean currents which also impact weather patterns these change and cause more frequent events.
One reason the term climate change is better than global warming.
