Hardly surprising, didn't it come out a year or so ago, that the US was spying on France, despite being a fellow NATO ally?

I’m going to keep repeating this - calling right-wing extremists who are armed, organized, and threatening violence, “militias” works to their goal of establishing legitimacy. They are terrorists. Call. Them. Out.

And if you’re in media and calling them “militias”, but refer to Daesh, ISIS, Al-Qaida, or the Taliban as “terrorists”, you should really think about why that is and the bias that you’re internalizing in your work.

What is singularity, sorry I am from England, we use English not this sort of jibberish. It is worst then 'unscheduled rapid disassembly' which Musks lot used to descript the fact the rocket blew up.

@vfrmedia

If they are anything like the self service at lidl, they work on weight, too, they complain if you even put a bag in the wrong place.

8 self service tills at £land and 2 normal tills. All 8 were closed.

@vfrmedia

II am not sure what the reason is, but they have been closed at 8:45 ish, but then opened up later in the day. Hopefully they can get it sorted if technical or sorted out if a policy issue.

Child labour robs girls and boys of their childhood.

Nowadays, over 160 million children endure child labour, half of which are exploited in hazardous work.

It's time for change.
We must #EndChildLabour once and for all.

I think quite a few employers see people who have a good portfolio as a threat, as they are worried we will see and report concerns (esp in schools). The PoundLand staff can open the tills, they just seem to do so at certain times. As I said they are on, so surely not drawing any more power than they are when the screen is opened up for use. (staff press button and type in a code thingy).

It is just a pain, on a Saturday morning, when I want to drop in before heading to set up for a club at the library or en route to a work assignment, pick up a few things, pay and head off, quickly without having to wait in a queue or behind someone with a shipping order (lots of items) and messing around with cash.

@zleap it can often take a surprisingly long time for modern EPOS to reboot and connect to the servers, and the IT support is often outsourced to faraway places, added to which retailers do not like their staff knowing too much about how the EPOS works as they don't trust them (its why its very difficult for someone well educated/qualified to get a retail job, the bosses think you are planning to rob the place)

Did you know the Homo Naledi burial paper has more authors (37) than cited sources (32)?

Half of those sources are self-citing the team's papers. And some of those self-citations are just wrong

This is a problem for a scientific paper with such strong claims #archaeology

No idea what Poundland are up to, I went in earlier to find a long queue, walking round noticed the self service till were all closed, now they are switched on (and clearly drawing power) but display lane closed.

This was at 11:15 this morning, totally rediculous in 2023. I know the staffed tills provides jobs, but so does supervising the self service tills and sorting out problems quickly.

Sometimes people need to go in, pick up products, take to a till, pay for goods and get out quickly, self service tills are ideal if you have normal non age restricted products.

Just open the bloody self service tills.

@hunter_jim

Can I ask which country this relates to please, as we have different laws in the UK, for Scotland and England, reference to the crown implies this is somewhere in the UK.

This act may apply to the whole of the UK. I know from a friend from Scotland that contract law is different, in Scotland, if I understand things, a verbal agreement is legally binding.

@msm_monitor

This is not only sloppy / lazy journalism but equally sloppy editing, editors are meant to oversee what is written for errors and clarity. Either both are lazy / sloppy or there is an element of mysogamy or perhaps bias against a particular party in there somewhere, this is despite the fact that as journalist you need to report facts and remain inpartial.

There has been numerous comments here on fedi about journalism getting worse, when the BBC (who are meant to be respected by setting high benchmark) can't get this right, what chance have others got.

@timnitGebru

This sort of reminds me of the episode of Keeping up appearances (uk sitcom) where emmet says in relation to singing that it is not the voice that is the problen, it is the person controlling the voice, so taking aim at Hyacynth Bucket.

So I am with you on this, AI isn't the problem it is the people who are currently in charge of it all, they have alrady proven to be unfit for purpose in many cases.

@toplesstopics

If people want to go topless then why not, it is not like seeing a persons breasts is offensive or even sexual in most cases.

Given breasts are also all shapes and sizes, then people need to learn this, we are already finding boys have a very misguided idea of what breasts look like from looking at porn, perhaps if people were allowed to be topless (or even naked) we will start to show more respect to each other, be less body concious of every blemish, less sexist misogamy etc, we should stop being so obsessed with how others look and take more interest in people as people and personality.

It may go a long way to ending the mental health crisis we are in with regard to how we look.

I doubt very much that this would cause the akward erections either, as it would be so normal to see breasts anyway that it would not.

I am sure pubecent boys would not end up with erections and bulging eyes (as in staring rudely) if nudity / toplessness was normalised as non sexual.

People need to start to separate sex and nudity for the benefit of everyone.

@uanews

This is fine, operational activities have to remain a secret to ensure their successful execution. I don't think people here on fedi are so obsessed with updates and would not want operational objective compromised.

Keep up the good work, report what you can and people here will wait,

If other news media outlet have a problem, tell them to learn about military history for an explanation as to why you never give constant updates.

@AnnaAnthro

Since been released without charge, as per other two arrested under similar charges. While the police are busy with this, how many real crimes are not being investigated and how much is all this costing the Scottish taxpayer?

#introduction

I have a background in #Chemistry and learned Fortran on punch cards. I got a 128K Macintosh and wrote #ChemDraw for Macintosh and Windows. It's still sold today, but I haven't been associated with it since 2007.
Since then, I have played a lot of #BridgeCardGame, but face-to-face bridge is a Covid disaster.
I don't say much, mostly I like to follow a few specific journalists, infosec, legal, econ, medical voices, and local news.
