@antinomy

I would have thought not, but I am not a lawyer, there are bad employers out there who will try all sorts of dodgy stuff though.

@cnnbrk

Isn't this the sort of thing dictators do? So that laws can't be subject to scrutiny? Erode powers of those that stand in your way is surely a path to a dictatorship oh hang on Isreal is a nuclear state, so a path to a nuclear armed dictatorship state.

State investigating claim that troopers were told to push migrants back into the Rio Grande

A state trooper’s claims that superiors ordered officers at the border in Eagle Pass to push migrants back into the Rio Grande and deny them water has sparked a state investigation
The trooper also reported that razor wire deployed by troopers has injured people — including a woman who had a miscarriage while entangled in the wire.

We fought wars over crap like this..😡

A new paper from the Stanford Internet Observatory finds troubling amounts of CSAM on Fediverse servers.

IFTAS is working on providing hash and match service and reporting support for ActivityPub servers, and will be convening platform and app developers to integrate CSAM scanning options in the default installation.

Providers are encouraged to consider blocking servers known to be a source of illegal content.

Archaeologists discover a lost ancient Maya city in the Mexican jungle

Archaeologists have recently made an exciting discovery in the dense forests of the Balamkú Ecological Reserve in the Mexican state of Campeche.

Through the use of high-resolution photography and LiDAR, they have uncovered a previously unknown Maya city called Ocomtún, meaning “stone column” in the Mayan language...

Hopefully by showing their true colours, people may wake up and realise that it is not such a good idea to vote for DeSantis and his GOP friends, of course for that to work people need to have been educated enough to realise and understand what these tweets symbolize, it is the latter part I fear is lacking.

PDS 70 is a K-type star cooler than our Sun. Around it is a huge disk made up of planet-forming materials, further separated into an inner and outer disk. A 5 billion mile gap separates those two layers, and within that gap are 2 known gas giants in the making.

On our world, water is life. But how did it get here? Are there similar environments around other stars?

Webb has us one step closer to answers. In a still-developing “solar system,” Webb detected water in the zone where rocky planets like Earth may form: go.nasa.gov/3O5LR2j

I note sky will rent you their “Sky Glass” smart tv. Proving there’s nothing new under the sun as I recall my grandparents used to rent their colour TV from Radio Rentals.

@_thegeoff

Ah ok, I know my blog does, or does now that I have figured out how to enter LaTeX in to the markdown

@zleap Not for me, but I think it depends on both the mastodon instance you're on, and whether your browser/app can render LaTeX etc. Similar to Reddit, some subreddits can render it, others (mileycyrusmemes etc) have no need to.

@mshiltonj

Not sure, lets=just create and share high quality content, which we are already doing on here.

@_thegeoff

I was just commenting generally on that, I still can't get LaTeX to work properly here, I am sure qoto supports MathJaX

Lets see if this works

\ce{$10^{57}$

@zleap If you look at the replies to my post you'll see somebody pointed out that my image alt-text has the same error, I pasted "10 superscript 57" in and it came out "1057" 😂
And yes, I generally default to "^", it's fairly foolproof.

@_thegeoff

If you are unable to use superscripts I think you can write 10^57 instead. LaTeX just works nicely with $10^{57}$
